Here at Bible Baptist we believe the authoritative, expository preaching of God's Word to be a vital responsibility of the New Testament local church. Below, listen to our most recent sermon from Pastor Carl Lubin. I Samuel 14:6, And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few. We shouldn t settle for a barely-getting-by type of Christianity. Our relationship with Christ calls for bold, imaginative faith that leads us to a steadfast obedience to accomplish the impossible tasks in front of us! God enjoys surpassing our wildest expectations when we step out in faith! Ephesians 3:20 tells us that Christ is is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. In the Old Testament we read about Jonathan, the son of Saul. He is remembered as one of the great Bible characters who displayed great faith, and was a very loyal friend. In I Samuel 14 we read of Jonathan and his armorbearer planning to raid the camp of the Philistine army- all by themselves. The Philistines were the enemies of God, and of God s people the Israelites. While King Saul, Jonathan s father, was taking it easy Jonathan took initiative and found a strategic position to launch his daring attack. They were vastly outnumbered, and greatly surpassed in military technology. No one in their right mind would think this was a good idea! Yet, Jonathan was bold enough to go over to the Philistine garrison just to see what the Lord might do. F.B. Meyer said, God is ever on the outlook for believing souls, who will receive his power and grace on the one hand, and transmit them on the other. He chooses them, that by them he should make his mighty power known. In other words, God sees those who have bold faith and are ready to step out in obedience and He blesses them! Jonathan could have just followed the crowd and settled for the ordinary, but he didn t. We shouldn t settle for a barely-getting-by type of Christianity. Our relationship with Christ calls for bold, imaginative faith that leads us to a steadfast obedience to accomplish the impossible tasks in front of us! Some might accuse Jonathan of being young and dumb , or not knowing any better. People may accuse you of such things too if you decide to step out for God. Jonathan had imaginative faith and he sought for God s leading and said, It may be that the Lord will work for us! What took place was a miracle as God himself took down the Philistines by causing an uproar and panic in their entire camp which allowed the Israelite army to easily clean up and win the battle. What do you think the Lord is leading you to do that may seem difficult or even impossible? Is there something He wants you to give up, or some action He wants you to take? Step out by faith, and take the initiative because it just may be that the Lord will work for you as He did for Jonathan.
