KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLORIDA (April 4, 2020) – A very limited number of 2019 Apollo gold, silver, and clad commemorative coins have been graded and encapsulated by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) with special Apollo 13 50th anniversary inserts, each autographed by Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise to commemorate his historic mission. Fewer than three hundred of these coins across all denominations have been encapsulated, with populations of some fewer than 20. This new insert, which bears the April 11,1970 launch date, has been retired and no more will be produced.The coins can be purchased directly from the Astronauts Memorial Foundation website: www.amfcse.org COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 20, 2020) — Kaci Heins, Space Center University Director at Space Center Houston, has been selected to receive the 2020 Alan Shepard Technology in Education Award.The award, named for Mercury and Apollo astronaut Alan Shepard, is presented jointly by the Space Foundation, the Astronauts Memorial Foundation (AMF), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in recognition of creative and innovative use of technology by K–12 educators, or district-level education personnel. The Astronauts Memorial Foundation (AMF) remembers Michael Alsbury on the 5th Anniversary of Alsbury making the ultimate sacrifice in service to the space program. On October 31, 2014, Alsbury, a private test pilot, lost his life during a test flight of SpaceShipTwo. Educators who have demonstrated a commitment to inspiring students' interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) may apply now to receive the 2020 Alan Shepard Technology in Education Award. The Astronauts Memorial Foundation Board of Directors unanimously voted to include private astronauts on the Space Mirror Memorial at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. The board also voted to include Michael Alsbury, a private test pilot who died in a 2014 test flight of SpaceShipTwo, on the wall. Jill Gilford, an Earth and Space Science Teacher at Twin Lakes High School in Monticello, Ind., has been selected to receive the 2019 Alan Shepard Technology in Education Award. Rona Ramon, widow of Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon, passed away at 54 on December 17, 2018 Grace G.
