We have received many complaints that the number of people in the parks are not allowing for proper social distancing and that park-goers are not able to freely move through our facilities. To aid in encouraging proper social distancing and spacing, we have temporarily closed the pavilions and picnic table areas in the parks, as these areas have been trouble spots for gatherings that have not respected safety guidelines. This action is to aid in the spreading of people throughout the facility and to avoid park-goers from gathering in large groups. We urge everyone to enjoy our parks safely, and to take advantage of the many locations Freehold Township has to offer. We are aware of the challenges presented this week, and will work to keep our parks as safe and enjoyable as possible. (10/7/2020)Freehold Township 2020 Trick or Treating InformationThe State of New Jersey has not placed restrictions on allowing children to trick-or-treat door-to-door in New Jersey. This has left the decision up to local authorities to decide whether or not there would be restrictions on the 2020 Halloween Trick-or-Treat activities. At this time, the Freehold Township Committee will not place any restrictions on Halloween activities within the Township of Freehold, and Halloween may proceed normally, keeping in mind that personal safety relating to the pandemic should be practiced wherever possible. The Township Committee believes that parents are surely able to decide which Halloween activities are best suited for their children. 2020 Safe Candy Trick or Treating Event at Town Hall CANCELEDCOVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings have required that the Safe Candy Day event at Town Hall be canceled this year. This event brings over 1,000 children and their parents to the Municipal Complex. Even holding a Halloween outdoor event would be too difficult to maintain the proper protective measures to avoid the spread of the virus. The Recreation Commission and the Township Committee are deeply disappointed at this necessary cancellation, as Safe Candy Day is one of the premier events of the season and a great afternoon of community togetherness. We will be sure to see you all at the event next year!VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SUPPORT VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCEDomestic violence does not just stop because of a crisis like the one we are currently facing. In fact, when stressors increase, violence and abuse can quickly escalate. For many victims, staying at home means being isolated with someone who is harming them. Remote services remain available for those who choose to utilize them instead of in-person visits.Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation.Freehold Township Committee Passes Restaurant Support ResolutionIn anticipation that the state will relax restaurants restrictions in the near future, the Freehold Township Committee has passed a resolution to simplify the process for restaurant owners to quickly and easily apply for seasonal outdoor dining permits through the Zoning Office and expansions to their alcohol consumption areas through the Clerk s Office. This resolution will take effect immediately to help these small businesses continue their operations under the orders of the governor and to maintain public safety while doing so.The following actions have been taken in support of continuing and expanding business operations within the Township: 1. The Zoning Officer will implement an abbreviated and emergency application process for businesses to utilize outdoor areas. 2. The Zoning Officer will approve temporary and emergency zoning permissions to conduct the required operations outdoors, in parking areas, grass areas and drives, so long as they are consistent with the safety of the public. 3. The Zoning Officer will consult with Township Engineer, Township Administrator, Police Chief and Health Officer to ensure consistency with his determination of safety. 4. The Township Clerk is authorized, upon consultation with the Police Chief, to approve expansions for alcohol beverage consumption areas through the state system, should the State promulgate the appropriate rules.Click here to view the entire resolution.Outdoor DiningGovernor Murphy has announced that bars and restaurants will be permitted to open with limited outdoor service on June 15, 2020. ABC has created a new permit to address theanticipated need of licensees to expand their premises to allow reasonable seating capacity while observing social distancing guidelines.Click here to view outdoor dining guidelinesClick here to view outdoor dining and tent structure checklistLetter from the Mayor Regarding Affordable Housing SettlementThere are upcoming adjustments to our current zoning laws that will change the landscape of our hometown. These changes are not desired by or at the behest of your local government but are the result of strong-armed tactics by our State Courts, land developers and others who want to dictate the look and feel of communities across the State. It is important to understand, these changes are being driven by people who will never live, work, or visit here and /or will significantly profit from these changes.Click here to view the letterUpdate from Mayor Lester A. Preston Jr. - Special Public MeetingAs many of you are aware, there is a Special Public Meeting of the Township Committee on Monday, April 27th, to discuss special zoning changes that are being proposed. The proposed changes are a direct result of our seven year court battle WITH Fair Share Housing Court and several developers to finalize our court mandated affordable housing obligation. The attached letter more fully explains the Township s position on this matter, and should be read and shared among our residents to better understand the current issues facing the Township. While we will hold this meeting via teleconference, we understand and respect our residents desire to be heard on such an important issue. As such, the Township Committee intends to open the hearing and carry it until June, when the public can be present and heard in person.Click here to read letter from Mayor Lester A. The blood plasma collected from people who have recovered from COVID-19 is used in the treatment of patients currently infected with the virus. The convalescent plasma is transfused into patients who match the stringent criteria and who have serious or immediately life-threatening COVID-19 infections. A single plasma donation has the potential to help up to four patients with COVID-19.Click here for more information.Pursuant to Executive Order #119, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced that he will be extending the state of emergency, which he declared on March 9, by an additional 30 days. This would put the state of emergency in place until at least early May. As he indicated on Monday, the State is starting to see positive signs that social distancing policies are helping to curb the spread of the coronavirus and that the next two weeks will be critical to ensure that we maintain that trajectory. With the Passover and Easter holidays upon us and with the warm weather of the past few days, it is increasingly harder, but more important than ever, to adhere to the CDC guidelines and social distancing practices. It is critical that we all do our part to contain and eliminate the threat this virus poses.Click here to read Full Message from Mayor Lester A.
