24 April 2015 LLDs win Cup; CBBs win Bowl in Finals Day of the Kata Group International Cricket 7s Australia s the Lickie Lickie Downunders (LLDs) from Sydney defeated the Mungoorbada Bushrangers by four runs in the Cup final of the Kata Group International Cricket 7s at the Republic Ground yesterday (24 April 2015). The Bowl division was won by CCBs in a tight game against the Galah Cricket Club.In the first game of the day the Wild Men from Borneo (WMFB) scored 58 runs, with the loss of two wickets and Stirlo scoring 25. Some big hitting from the Mungoorbada Bushrangers Curtis Shadforth saw one six and three fours being scored off WMFB s Stirlo s bowling and retiring on 30. Another big six from Louis Bonomini sealed the game for the Bushrangers on a score of 64.The second game was a low key affair and the Galah s were able to restrict the Phuket Youth Team to only 44 with some tight bowling, especially from Shane Bulfin. David Newham again batted well and made 23 not out and easily passing the Phuket Youth s score in the fourth over.In one of the best games of the day, the CBBs were unable to chase down the LLD s score of 70, falling short by five runs. Sydney First Grade player Jake Turner played a powerful innings to make an eight ball 33 not out with Dixie Joy bowling a tight over for CBBs taking one for seven off his over. Local Phuket player Stewie batted well for the CBBs making 24 not out, however the CBBs fell short of the target. The first semi-final again saw the CBBs face the LLDs, with the CBBs batting first. Dixie Joy made 16 not out, bringing the CBBs score to 39 runs, with very tight bowling by the LLDs. The LLDs Jake Turner gain batted strongly making 26 runs not out that included two huge sixes, contributing to the score of 45 to win the game.In the second semi-final, the Mungoorbada Bushrangers scored 65 runs with Wayne Morrison making 30 not out. Despite good batting from Peter Dickey 32 not out, the Galahs were defeated by one run and the Bushrangers progressed to the Cup final. In the first preliminary final some fantastic bowling from the Phuket Youth s Paan claimed the two early CBB wickets of Stuart and Socrates. The CBBs made 46 runs with local player Raju Seemant making 21 not out. The CBBs then bowled very tightly with Owen Pringle taking two wickets for eight runs in his over.In the other preliminary final, the WWFB batted first against the Galahs to make 40 runs with Mark Stirling posting 20 runs. Tidy bowling from the Galahs Matt Jones in the last over taking one for six runs. The Galah s chased down the score in the fourth over with Peter Dickey making 28 run not out.The Cup final was contested by Australia s Mungoorbada Bushrangers and LLDs. The Mungoorbada team scored 53 with Louis Bonomini making 20 not out. The LLDs won the Cup Final with Player of the Final Jake Turner retiring on 31 not out. The LLD s were this year s Cup Winners.In the Bowl final, the CBBs who are an international touring club based in Chiang Mai Thailand played the Galahs from New South Wales in Australia. The Galahs batted first with the CBBs bowling tightly throughout the whole innings. The Galah s made 39 runs only, which proved easy to chase down, passing the score in the fourth over making 42. The CBBs were again crowned Bowl Champions.Maurice Delaney from O tool s Bar was presented with the very important Spirit of Cricket Award after contributing to the event over many years. In the first match of the day, the Phuket Youth batted first against Australia s Lickie Lickie Downunders (LLDs) and made a very good score of 63, with Kune making 22 not out.The LLDs struggled in the run chase with only Jonesy batting well and retiring with 30 runs. Thawekron Sutiphpa (Pao) took a fantastic catch over mid wicket to claim Snakey s wicket, with Lonno and Camo also making ducks. A final wicket fell with two runs needed to win, so Jonesy had to bat again and hit a four to win a very tight match. In an entertaining match the Mungoorbada Bushrangers took on the CBBs in the second game of the day. The Bushrangers batted well and managed to make 58 runs, with Louis Bonomini making 24 not out. In his first match for the CBBs, Patong Cricket Club s Stewie Hamilton made an impressive 23 not out to help the CBBs pass the score and win in the last over. In the third game the Wild Men from Borneo (WMFB) batted first and worked hard against good bowling from the Galah Cricket Club. WMFB s Mark Stirling batted well to make 22 not out, with the Galah s David Newham bowling a very tight over, taking two wickets for only three runs. In reply the Galah Cricket Club easily matched the WMFB s score with Peter Dickey making a well struck 25 not out. In the next match the CBBs took on the Phuket Youth in a most entertaining match, with the Phuket Youth team managing a brilliant win in the end. The CBBs batted first and struggled against some very good bowling and fielding. Phuket Youth s Ball bowled a great over taking one wicket for four runs and the team was able to restrict the CBBs to only 60 runs, with Michael Maher being the only batsman to get going with 30 not out. In chasing down the score, Kung batted brilliantly making 26 not out to enable the Phuket Youth to win in the final over. The WMFB batted first in match five of the day to record 39 runs, with the LLDs bowling very tightly, most notably by Turner and Birdy. In reply LLDs passed the WMFB score in the fourth over to record a win and a bonus point. The Galah Cricket Club played the Mungoorbada Bushrangers in the sixth match of the day with the Bushrangers proving too strong for the Galahs. Bono and Morro bowled tightly to help restrict the Galahs to only 47 runs. The Bushrangers were able to pass the Galah Cricket Club score in the fourth over to make an easy win. In the last game of the day the Phuket Youth were able to cap off a great day for Phuket cricket with a second win. The WMFB batted first with Ian Farrar making an impressive 33 not out and retiring for the team to post 59 runs. After a short break due to rain, some sensible batting from Pao and Kung saw the Phuket Youth pass the WMFB score in the final over, with Kung making 22 not out. Finals Day play tomorrow (Friday 24 April 2015) starts at 10am at the Republic Ground Phuket. Media Release 22 April 2015 Day One of Kata Group International Cricket 7s Two days after the Kuwait Eagles were crowned Cup Champions for the Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2015, the sound of ball on willow resounded again today (22 April 2015) at the Republic Ground for Day One of the Kata Group International Cricket 7s. In match one, local team the Phuket Youth took to the field first against the Cricket Sixes Spirit of Cricket Award winners the Mungoorbada Bushrangers from the Northern Territory, Australia. The Phuket Youth s participation in the Kata Group Cricket 7s was supported by Mr Mahmoud Abdullah, Captain of Kuwait s MG Cricket Club. Thawekron Sutiphpa (Pao), a junior veteran for 14 years and the Phuket Youth Team coach bowled fifth and only went for four runs. The Mungoorbada Bushrangers won the match with Louis Bono taking one for one off his over for the Bushrangers. Kung batted well for Phuket Youth with 14 runs, however this was not enough. New Australian team the Lickie Lickie Downunders (LLDs) took on fellow Australian team the Galah Cricket Club in the next match. This was the tightest game of the day with tight steady bowling from the Galahs restricting the LLDs to only 60 runs. The LLDs then bowled very tightly to restrict the Galahs to only 54 runs. Danny Eljed batted well to make 26, however fell short after tight overs from Scott Bird and Ben Lonergan of the LLDs. In the third match of the day, the CBBs batted first with Michael Cat Maher 22 not out and Dixie Joy run out for 19, resulting in a score of 64. Dixie Joy opened the bowling for the CBBs taking two wickets in a tidy display for only six runs claiming the wickets of the Wild Men from Borneo (WMFB) Captain Mark Stirling Captain and Ross Broun. Two ducks from the WMFB resulted in the CBBs restricting the score to 47 and winning comfortably.The fourth match proved to be the most dramatic of the day after the LLDs were restricted to only 47 runs, with John, Steve and Morro all bowling tight overs. There were match-changing scenes as the Mungoorbada Bushrangers fell cheaply with four players making ducks, each making generous donations to the ACST s Phuket Junior Cricket Development Fund, which are to be used for local activities and programs that benefit the development of junior cricket in Phuket. The LLDs Jake Turner bowled a fantastic three wicket maiden over and Nick Price bowled his over, taking three for two runs resulting in a great win. In match five the Galah s Peter Dickey had only six runs taken from his over, David Newham had nine and Ben Watkinson two, which restricted the CBBs to only 41 runs. The CBB s Tim Caimakadis batted well for 27 not out. However David Newham made an impressive 29 not out to bring the Galahs home for an easy win.
