HUMAN BIOLOGY STUDY PROGRAMMEUndergraduates in Sri Lankan Science Faculties who fulfil the criteria for registration for a Human Biology special/general degree will be eligible to follow the Part I and Part II of their degree course with the medical undergraduates.Part I and Part II comprise academic studies on Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, General Pathology, Parasitology, Microbiology and Pharmacology respectively. CENTER FOR KIDNEY RESEARCHKidney (renal) disease is a problem encountered throughout the world. At present Sri Lanka is faced with an increase in renal disease with Chronic Kidney Disease being the major disease. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is characterized by progressive destruction of renal mass with irreversible sclerosis and loss of nephrons over a period of months to years, depending on the underlying aetiology. Yet unfortunately the incidence rates, aetiology, and demographic patterns of CKD in Sri Lanka are largely unknown as only few studies have been published on the topic. With the emergence of endemic CKD of unknown aetiology (CKDu) in the North Central Province in the 1990’s, a lot of research has been confined to the study of the aetiology of CKDu.
