We are very excited to be back on the field. We hope your children are enjoying being back on the field with their coaches and fellow Islanders.As of now, NorCal has tentatively scheduled games to start in 2020. However, we don t know at this point if or when games will actually be allowed by the State and County. For now, we are going forward with planning for socially distanced team training sessions for the fall. As conditions evolve, we will continue to re-evaluate and keep you up to date if it looks like we will be able to participate in league/games.Team practices will be 2 days a week in the afternoon/evening with our professional trainers or team coach. We will be adapting our current format to allow a coaches pod and then split teams into their own pod/s (11v11 teams will be split into two pods). We will remain socially distanced, NOTallowing contact. We will be progressing through our return-to-play phases as State County guidance allows.We want to keep everyone updated on how the club is dealing with the COVID-19 health pandemic. To do this we will send out an update every Monday with any new information. We will also send out updates if anything significant arises during the week.As of now we are waiting for further guidance from our soccer governing organizations on how to proceed with the spring season. Currently, all in person activities have been cancelled untill April 12th in compliance with US Club Soccer and California Governor Gavin Newsom s directives to help protect public health and safety. The ASC board and other groups have been holding regular online meetings to formulate a plan for moving forward.Players can continue their individual training. Despite facing talented competition early on, the Falcons finished first place in their group and qualified for the semi-finals. After winning the semi-final by a score of 2-1 they advanced to the championship to face an impressive Ballistic United team. After 60 mins of play, 2 overtime periods and several close chances the score remained tied at 0-0. The Falcons scored 4 of their penalties to win the championship by a final score of 4-2.Most Islander families have done the travel circuit. Manteca, Lathrop, Davis, Sacramento. Maybe Napa or Santa Cruz. This summer, the 2008 boys took travel to another level. The destination? The United Kingdom!It was a soccer packed 10 days. Within 24 hours of landing in London, most of the boys and their families headed to Wembley Stadium for the Community Shield, the final preseason game before the start of the Premier League, which Manchester City won over Liverpool in a penalty shootout thriller. As the trip wound down we enjoyed a very different stadium experience at Burnley’s Turf Moor, which has been hosting top level soccer since 1883. In a classic soaking English rain, Burnley won 3-0 over Southampton and, perhaps as importantly, made several long lasting young American fans. In between these unforgettable spectator experiences, the boys got to tour three of the most iconic stadiums in England—Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford, and Anfield. And probably more memorable that any of that—training sessions with coaches from Charlton Athletic and Manchester United coaches as well as four games against honest to goodness UK kids. There were even a couple of games for younger siblings thrown in for good measure. Oh, and there were some other things too—the Tower of London, theater, a giant castle in Wales, Shakespeare’s house.But probably more importantly than any of the soccer experiences was the chance for the boys, and the families, to bond and really get to know each other. They went to the UK as teammates but came back as a tightknit team. The Alameda Islanders 2009G Red team took 2nd place in their Premier/4 division in State Cup over Jan 26-27 tournament weekend. The girls lost the championship match in double overtime to San Juan SC Spirits with a score of 1-0. They fought hard to the very end. Proud of these girls led under the coaching direction of Sara Diluna, Marty Farris and Adam Butler. The 2009 Girls Red team won 2nd place at the Santa Cruz Breakers Halloween Cup 2 weekends ago. They played tough by playing against IR Academy who are currently ranked 5th in California.The Islanders, however, broke IR Academy’s shutout streak at the tournament by scoring against them leaving the final score at 5-3.Coaches Adam Butler, Sara Diluna, Marty Farris The ASC Islanders 2006 Girls brought home the Kick-or-Treat Tournament championship hosted by the Fremont Youth Soccer Club on October 27th and 28th. This tournament was all about the girls showcasing their growth and development over this season. They began the season with a shaky 0-4 tournament performance in August. Now, they dominated their age group by going undefeated and conceding only 1 goal in the final 90 seconds of tournament play. BA-BOOM! This success was truly a team effort.The impressive defensive stand was led by Kate Sikora (defensive mid), Sophie Moser (right D), Josie Farris (left D), Kate Burgess (center D), Dani Petersen (center D) and 4 shutout halves by Soren Firestone as goalie. Sarah Grace Powell (striker) led the attack with 4 goals and 3 assists over the two-day tournament. Ivy Ausmus (wing forward) scored 2 goals, and Gracie Martin (wing forward), Zuni Zapeta-Huggans (attacking mid), and Sikora each scored a goal. Two of Powell’s goals came off of direct free kicks. Martin’s goal was the most impressive of the tournament, as it was a powerful one-touch finish off of a long cross from Powell. Martin’s goal was in the final game and served as a fitting punctuation to the team’s dominant performance throughout the tournament. Hana Thomas (wing forward, attacking mid), Jaena Freeman (striker, attacking mid), Maddie Sanchez (wing forward), Ruby Rawski (wing and mid), and Savanna Stollman (attacking mid) all made important contributions controlling the mid-field or forward attack with their give-and-goes, overlaps, steals, switches, and through-passes.Teammates Jardena Kully and Olivia Martin were unable to attend, but have been crucial to helping this team develop and achieve this level of success.The girls went as hippies on the first day. Thank you to Jen Firestone and Merri Rawski for costume design and coordination!
