Warning Signs to
Look for in Your Teen Girl

Major changes in her mood or she is easily angered when she wasn’t in the past.

Negative changes in family relationships (everyone is walking around on pins and needles).

Grades declining, skipping school (when she previously liked school).

New friends that are not the best influence and abandoning the better influences.

Trouble with the law or expulsion from school.

Disrespectful to authority.

Loss of direction in life or extreme risk-taking.

No longer enjoys the wholesome things like sports, hobbies.

Spends a great deal of time alone, and when home, isolates herself.

Participation in theft or illegal activities.

No longer caring what her parents think, or that she will be punished.

As a parent, you should realize how important it is to identify these warning signs as soon as possible.

IS YOUR DAUGHTER’S LIFE IN A DOWNWARD SPIRAL?

As you begin to see signs that your daughter has gotten off track and is in a downward spiral, a plan can be developed to intervene. Sometimes this begins with counseling, but it may lead to placement at a center like New Lifehouse for a time. Without identifying the warning signs early, the later choice is usually what becomes necessary. For several reasons, you might be at that point now, and we are here to help identify what direction you might have to take to get your daughter the help she needs to overcome her life controlling issues.

Typical Boarding School Questions

Q. What is expected for a student to complete to the program?

The program works on a level system. Each level consists of a particular length of time, and each level has different requirements the student will need to fulfill before eligibility to advance to the next level.

Q. What type of counseling do students at NLHA receive?

Upon entry into the program, each student is assigned an advisor to provide individual one-on-one guidance and mentoring determined by that student’s particular needs. The proven cure for life-controlling problems is based on the embracing of Biblical principles to spiritually improve the quality of her character. Students also meet with the Life Skills Counselor to work through the student’s individual issues through personal learning contracts throughout the duration of the program, as well as in group sessions during the week. The Program Manager oversees each student’s overall needs and works with family, student, and staff to see that restoration is brought to both the student and family.

Q. To whom and when will the student be allowed to make phone calls and/or receive mail?

After 4 weeks in the program, the student will be allowed two ten-minute phone calls, and one twenty- minute phone call each week (days for calls are assigned upon admission into the program). A student will only be allowed to receive from persons on her phone and mail authorization list based on her current level privileges. Phone/mail usage is a privilege and will be monitored by Staff. Students are allowed mail upon entry into the program according to level privileges and authorization list.

Q. When can I visit my daughter there?

Students are allowed a monthly pass. The time of that pass is dependent upon the student’s current level in the program.

Q. How do I find out how my girl is doing in the program?

Each student is assigned an advisor upon entering the program. All inquiries relating to the student will be handled by her advisor. If you have an immediate question concerning your student, feel free to contact our main office during normal business hours.

Q. Will my girl be able to continue her schooling there?

Absolutely! And she can get caught up and retake some courses to get a better grade.  The students who daily and year-round attend our privately accredited school, Cross Christian Academy, also participate in both personal and group Studies for a New Life. The thoughtful curriculum helps to establish a foundation of biblical knowledge leading to spiritual growth. The faith- structured classes also develop the a major goal of the program: a life-changing, continually growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

What Our Students Say

Former Student

“I turned away from God and started self-harming. I reached out for help and applied to different places, but New Lifehouse was the first one with availability for me. I can happily say that I’ve been clean from cutting for over twenty months!”

Former Student

“I had an eating disorder and began to cut myself. One doctor told me I was bipolar, another told me I had borderline personality and all they did was put me on more medication. Now my dad says he feels like he has his Brooke back.”

Former Student

“I was always sneaking out of the house to do drugs. I started smoking pot at age 13 which led to drinking and an addiction to pain killers. Teen Challenge completely saved my life. God has fulfilled me more than anything else the world has provided.”

Former Student

“By the time my parents found out about most of my lies, I was addicted, sexually active, a liar, manipulator, and troublemaker within my family. This program has made me realize how important my family is and I’ll never again take them for granted.”
