The proposition passed with 73.5% voter approval
The City of Coweta would like to thank those who took the time to vote in the February 8 elections. Local elections affect many important aspects of our community, including public safety and infrastructure, and your vote matters no matter which way you voted.
The One for Coweta initiative successfully passed with 73.5% voter approval, which will allow the City to implement a one-penny sales tax to create a fund for public safety, roads, drainage, parks, and other critical infrastructure.
Projects for the One for Coweta initiative are underway and updates are available below. Once again, thank you for voting!
One for Coweta Project Updates
During a regular City Council meeting on December 6, 2021, Council determined four projects from the list of One for Coweta initiatives to be first priority. These projects include upgrading 111th Street, improving the Coweta Sports Park, building the Public Safety Center, and improving 121st Street.
At this time, the engineering contract for 111th Street is let and the project is underway. Additional project details can be found in Council minutes for the March 7th meeting here.
On February 8th, 2022, voters in the city of Coweta will have a second opportunity to implement a one-penny sales tax that will create a dedicated source of revenue for improving our public safety, roads, drainage, parks, and other critical infrastructure. If passed, the One for Coweta funds would be used exclusively to accomplish important projects like improving our public safety facilities, enhancing local parks, and improving our roadways.

What are our options to fund existing and future capital projects?
Coweta’s general fund budget is almost entirely composed of local sales tax, and that fund has to support many operating expenses of the City, including public works and public safety. There is no significant source of revenue that can be dedicated solely to road repairs and capital projects. As the City of Coweta grows, the need for capital improvements will grow as well, and the City has two options to fund these growing needs:
As a community, Coweta voters will have the opportunity to approve a one-penny sales tax measure to provide support for infrastructure and public safety investments to sustain Coweta’s forward progress.
