Budapest, Hungary Buda Castle and West Bank | Pest and East Bank | Vajdahunyad Castle Budapest Budapest, Hungary   Buda Castle and West Bank | Pest and East Bank | Vajdahunyad Castle Although the major sights in Budapest were along the Danube, my favorite part of my city tour was along a district to the city s northeast which appeared to be more of Budapest, Hungary   Buda Castle and West Bank | Pest and East Bank | Vajdahunyad Castle While the Buda side of the city hosts Budapest s major tourist attractions, the Pest side is where the locals hang out.  It hosts the majority of the shopping, many of the Budapest, Hungary   Buda Castle and West Bank | Pest and East Bank | Vajdahunyad Castle Budapest may have formed from the joining of two riverside cities, Buda and Pest, but the two sides could not be more different.  While Pest seemed to be where one goes Budapest may be the main tourist location on the Danube in Hungary, but it is far from the only.  Scattered upstream from Budapest are several wonderful locations to visit the Roman ruins of Aquincum, the wonderful city of Eztergom, Hungary was once part of the dual-empire of Austria-Hungary, which fell apart after World War I. After decades of Communism, Hungary was among those newly free nations that very quickly integrated with the West, joining NATO and the European Union and I had the occasion to spend a long weekend in Budapest, thoroughly enjoying it. But I had seen about as much of the city as I intended and had a day available to venture somewhere further afield.
