Sources for current and historical data in LMD include: The Current Research Information System (CRIS) Multistate Research Projects (NIMMS) AREERA Plans of Work (POW) and Annual Reports of Accomplishments NIFA’s eGrants Systems NIFA’s Priority Science Areas include: GLOBAL FOOD SECURITY AND HUNGERNIFA supports new science to boost U.S. agricultural production, improve global capacity to meet the growing food demand, and foster innovation in fighting hunger by addressing food security for vulnerable populations. CLIMATE CHANGENIFA-funded projects generate knowledge to develop an agriculture system that maintains high productivity in the face of climate changes. This will help producers plan for and make decisions to adapt to changing environments, sustain economic vitality, and take advantage of emerging economic opportunities offered by climate change mitigation technologies. SUSTAINABLE ENERGYNIFA contributes to President Obama’s goal of energy independence with a portfolio of grant programs to develop biomass used for biofuels, design optimum forestry and crops for bioenergy production, and produce value-added bio-based industrial products. CHILDHOOD OBESITYNIFA-supported programs ensure that nutritious foods are affordable and available and provide guidance so that individuals and families are able to make informed, science-based decisions about their health and well-being. FOOD SAFETYNIFA food safety programs work to reduce the incidence of food-borne illness and provide a safer food supply by addressing the causes of microbial contamination and antimicrobial resistance, educating consumer and food safety professionals, and developing food processing technologies. The Plan of Work (POW) data collection, including the Annual Report of Accomplishments, is the vehicle for Land Grant Universities to report planned Agriculture Research and Extension programs and annual program results. The Plan of Work is mandated by the Agricultural Research, Extension, and Education Reform Act of 1998. The Plan of Work must be completed by eligible institutions receiving Federal agricultural research and extension formula funds under the Hatch Act of 1887, as amended (7 U.S.C. 361a et seq.); sections 3(b)(1) and (c) of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914, as amended (7 U.S.C. 343 (b)(1) and (c)); and sections 1444 and 1445 of the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977, as amended (7 U.S.C. 3221 and 3222).
