Today, Proyecto Azteca is a nationally recognized, community-directed, self-help housing organization that has financed and trained close to 1000 (one-thousand) families in the construction and first-time ownership of their own homes in over 150 colonias and rural areas.HISTORYSERVICESOUR TEAM(C) Copyright by Proyecto Azteca 2020Proyecto Azteca is an equal housing opportunity organization and doesnot practice orsupport anyone who practices housing discrimination. Proyecto Azteca has a variety of programs to offer; all of the families who qualify are based on family size and annual income. The income guidelines are set by United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and typically require that a family be at or below the area median income (AMI); these guidelines change every year.Proyecto Azteca’s Construction, Family Support, Finance and Community Engagement Departments are staffed with dedicated and skilled individuals who work towards the goal of building a better world for every on of our families. Proyecto Azteca was established in 1991 in the spirit of Cesar Chavez with the collaboration of the United Farm Workers of America, Texas Rural Legal Aid and the Texas Low Income Housing Information Service. Proyecto Azteca was created to respond to the housing crisis in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley colonias located in Hidalgo County.
