The schedule will include a blend of synchronous and asynchronous content, at different times of day to accommodate different time zones.Registration for the conference will openJuly 21. With the aim of making participation more feasible for more people, we’ve made some changes to registration this year. We’ve reduced rates, set our base registration at an at-cost price of $100, and introduced tiered pay-what-you-can options. In all the languages we work from and into as translators, we raise our voices to protest the abuses of power and oppression inflicted systematically on Black communities across the United States. We say their names: George Floyd. Breonna Taylor. Ahmaud Arbery. Sandra Bland. Eric Garner. Trayvon Martin. And too many others who have been silenced.Read more at the ALTA blog A Statement from ALTA Staff on a Virtual ALTA43 [May 7, 2020][May 7,2020] Our decision last month to move the annual ALTA conference online was a difficult one; we cherish the one time each year when we all gather together. But the overwhelming response to the survey we sent out about a virtual conference is a testament to your investment in this organization: over 400 of you took the time to respond.ALTA’s Board, staff, and Conference Committee have carefully read and discussed the responses so far. One small silver lining of this moment is the opportunity to check in with you about what your priorities for the conference are, and for our conference planning to be led by what you’ve told us.You can read the full statement below.Read more at the ALTA newsletter Meet the 2020 National Translation Award in Poetry JudgesWe are honored to present this year’s judges:Ilya Kaminsky, Lisa Katz, andFarid Matuk!TheNational Translation Awardis awarded annually in poetry and in prose to literary translators who have made an outstanding contribution to literature in English by masterfully recreating the artistic force of a book of consummate quality. 2020 marks the twenty-second year of the NTA and the sixth year in which the NTA is awarded separately in poetry and prose.Submissionsfor the National Translation Award in PoetryclosedMay 4.Read more at the ALTA blog Meet the 2020 National Translation Award in Prose JudgesWe are honored to present this year’s judges,Amaia Gabantxo, Emmanuel D.
