Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere announces its new Assistant Director for Programming and Public Engagement, Alexandra Cenatus, and its new Assistant Director for Graduate Engagement, Dr. Kristen Galvin.The Intersections Scholars program, made possible with support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, introduces UF undergraduate students to the study of grand-challenge questions in the humanities. Learn more about becoming an Intersections Scholar.The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a $150,000 two-year grant to pilot a consortium of four research institutions and their public partners to study coasts, climates, and the environmental humanities. The Coasts, Climates, the Humanities, and the Environment Consortium (CCHEC) is a partnership of the University of Georgia, Louisiana State University, the University of Florida, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as an alliance of regional stakeholders under the leadership of Nicholas Allen, Abraham Baldwin Professor in Humanities and Director of the Willson Center for Humanities and Art at the University of Georgia.From the University of Florida, Professors Barbara Mennel of the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere, Ken Sassaman of the Department of Anthropology, Jack Davis of the Department of History, Terry Harpold of the Department of English, and Cynthia Barnett of the Bob Graham Center for Public Service and the College of Journalism will participate. This award acknowledges the importance of collaboration for addressing urgent issues in environmental humanities, particularly as they pertain to the South-East region of the United States.
