Please note that Conference Registration Remains openA Letter from the Secretary-GeneralDear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,The sixty-eighth session of Harvard Model United Nations will be held from Thursday, January 28 to Sunday, January 31, 2021 in an entirely online format. In this unprecedented time in world history, the value of Model United Nations has never been clearer. From pandemics to financial crises, the dangers our world faces demand informed action rooted in international collaboration. This January, more than 4,000 high school delegates and their faculty advisors will join our staff of over 230 Harvard University undergraduates to learn about diplomacy, to connect with friends from around the world, and to offer solutions inspired by the theme of informed action in times of crisis. Every year, Harvard Model United Nation attracts some of the most promising young leaders from around the world, and this year, we need these young leaders more than ever.However, it is clear to the Secretariat and to myself that the only safe way for this important dialogue between young leaders to occur is in a virtual format. While we cherish the many opportunities gathering in physical space provides, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic makes it unsafe to gather nearly 5,000 people from around the world in an indoor setting. As such, conference programming, including both formal committee sessions and informal social and educational events, will be conducted using Zoom and other online platforms.Harvard Model United Nations is the oldest, largest, and one of the most international conferences of its kind, with delegates hailing from roughly 60 countries at the most recent session. While the move from physical to virtual format is certainly momentous, our commitment to providing substantive excellence remains unaltered. Delegates will continue to teach and learn from their fellow young leaders as well as from our Harvard undergraduate staff members. Our staff, who have already devoted months of research and passion into the crafting of background guides, committees, and other programming, are excited by the innovations demanded by this unique iteration of the conference.Applications for Harvard Model United Nations 2021 remain open. You will notice that prices and deadlines have changed in order to make the online conference more accessible and to help delegations plan with flexibility.
