Sometimes I’m not sure who has weathered the years better, Lorry and I, or our Lazy Daze. Our boys, who were 8 and 10 years old when we started our journeys have grown up as well. Andrew is now married and living in the eastern Sierra, Tommy is in Berkeley with his fiancee, and both have converted their Dodge Promaster Cargo Vans into custom campers for themselves. Everyone is dedicated to rock climbing, other active outdoor pursuits, and both boys have motorcycles as well. Even today we share outdoor time together whenever possible albeit in 3 separate campers.Lolo and I have continued our travels to a variety of destinations and in multiple travel modes. In September of 2019 we took a 4Runner camping trip to Central and Southeast Oregon. It was a place that I had wanted to photograph since seeing images from the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. By adding stops in Bend, the Alvord Desert, Hart Mountain Wildlife Refuge, Crater Lake, and finally Shakespeare's MacBeth at Ashland, Lolo created an action packed week.In May of this year we rented a Caravan in Europe for a month of travels through Spain. Lorry had an aggressive itinerary and I think we managed to cover most of it, and most of what we wanted to see in Spain as well.In February of 2019 year, I finally managed to convince Lorry to join me on a two week trip down the Baja Peninsula. It turns out that the security concerns were vastly overblown, and we found the Mexican people to be some of the most gracious and hospitable people that we have ever met on our travels. In January of 2018, I needed some tropical warmth and we flew to Hawaii for a vacation on the Big Island and Maui. It was the last state Lorry hadn’t been too and did not disappoint. Unfortunately, we both got sick, and even “cheated death”, when the we got a false alert for incoming ballistic missiles. We did however get to hike the crater in Haleakala National Park which was certainly a trip highlight.February found us back in Yosemite in Winter for more hiking with the boys and their girlfriends. In March we actually joined a Gate 1 Organized Tour for a 2 week trip to Thailand. Joining an organized tour was something we approached with some trepidation, but we needn’t have worried. It was a great experience, and one which we would have been unable to replicate by ourselves even at twice the price. In May, we joined the boys over the Memorial Day weekend in Bishop, CA for a hiking and climbing vacation. It was great fun as always to recreate with them and their girlfriends, (and in Andrew’s case, fiancee), as well. This July 4th, we took a trip that was on my "bucket list" for many years. I had always wanted to boat and camp on Lake Powell using my 1995 Grady White Adventure 208 cuddy cabin cruiser. While the timing might have been suboptimal in terms of both the heat, and crowds, it was still a spectacular trip. Lolo has kindly documented the details of our first boat travel vacation at Lake Powell Boat Camping. In the last week of August we took the motorhome to Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite and finally got to hike both Unicorn Peak and Clouds Rest.Late September found us backpacking in the Trinity Alps. It was great fun to add a new option to our list of travel modes.Early October we decided to check out the fall colors in the Eastern Sierra with Andrew's new in-laws and had a great time fishing and hiking. In a final push to extract as much fun before the winter we then took the 4Runner on a 4WD trip across the Mojave Road capped off with a visit to old friends in Indian Wells. So, as the years seem to fly by, we will continue to try and fill them with travel adventures in whatever style best suits the destination.I continue to be negligent in updating the videos, but for now the list of my favorites remains unchanged at:Sliding on Saucers down the sand dunes of White Sands National MonumentBoating and Camping on Heron Lake State ParkSliding down the rocks in Slide Rock State ParkBoating in a raft on Lake PowellRafting the Colorado River north of Moab, UTOn a personal note... something that this website has given our entire family that was not part of the original goal is an awareness of how documenting one's travels will both preserve and enhance your appreciation of the experience, for years after the trip was taken. I am regularly amazed at how little of our previous travels we can recall, unless they were preserved with photos, videos, and hopefully a compelling narrative. While it might initially seem a bit of bother to pose the family photos or stage a video shoot, the value of these moments seems to grow exponentially with the passage of time. This is especially true when the subjects include children that rapidly evolve into adolescents and adults with the passing of every year. Finally, if anyone is reading this, we would love to hear from you, especially if you are planning your own road trip adventure. Comments from experienced travelers on each of the stops are also greatly appreciated. We plan on revisiting many of our favorite locations, and if you could add a bit of local knowledge beyond that which we have already included, it would help us to continue our explorations.A word of warning This mode of travel is not for everyone. Some of the daily mileages are well above what many would consider recreational, and the pace of activities could be described as frenetic, so you might want to add a few days or remove a few stops to make your trip more relaxing. Still if you like..Exploring natural wonders Being physically active - hiking, biking, swimming, etc.Getting away from the crowds Bonding with your offspring or significant other then you might find something of use in this site. Check out the routes we traveled by hovering your mouse over the year links on the map, and then select one that might be of interest. From that trip's itinerary, select a place of interest.Go to About to learn more about our setup and who we are. Thanks for visiting!!Herb
