Message from Dearborn Public Schools: Our in-person high school graduations start on Monday with Edsel Ford, followed by Dearborn High, Fordson and Magnet on Tuesday to Thursday.  Everyone is invited to watch on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/dpscommdept. Congratulations parents and guardians of graduating seniors! We know that you must be very excited and exceptionally proud of your student’s achievement. We are extremely excited to see you next Monday, July 13th for your Personal and Individualized Graduation Experience! Please remember that it is important to report at your scheduled time so the ceremony can run safely and efficiently. If you report early or miss your assigned time – you will receive your diploma but will not be able to walk. Graduates must be appropriately attired for this event. The young men are to wear a shirt, tie, dress pants and dress shoes, while the young ladies should wear a dress or a dressy outfit and dress shoes. No flip flops or tennis shoes will be allowed. If a student is not dressed appropriate- they will receive their diploma – but they will not walk.We want to remind all students that all of these events are considered school sponsored events and the school code of conduct will be enforced. We will continue to maintain high expectations of our seniors throughout the entire ceremony. In addition, any inappropriate behavior at graduation will result in the delay of the student’s diploma. Thank you for reinforcing our expectations. We want to emphasize that graduation is always a formal ceremony. These events are designed to recognize the students years of hard work, effort and accomplishments. We are asking that everyone involved in our graduation ceremony continue to respect the occasion and join with us in our efforts to have a memorable event. No air horns, beach balls, balloons or similar items are allowed and they will be taken at the entry door. Please do not bring anything to the ceremony that will detract from the personal recognition of each graduate. We are very excited for the senior Class of 2020! We have been impressed with their leadership and sacrifice during this time. July 13th is their time and we will celebrate them accordingly! Again, thank you for reinforcing our expectations and for supporting your student at this very special time. On behalf of the entire staff, I wish you and our graduates continued success for years to come. I look forward to seeing you at graduation. Your continued support to our school as always is greatly appreciated.Edsel Ford’s Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for Monday July 13th.  The ceremony will begin at 1pm and end no later than 5pm.  Each graduate has been assigned a scheduled Group # with a designated time to report that was sent to their school email account. One from your class president, and one from the speaker at large who was chosen by a panel of staff judges. There are no tickets required for this event.Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,According to Johns Hopkins University, the effects of summer learning loss can result in nearly a three-month loss in grade-level equivalency in math and a two-month loss in grade-level equivalency in reading. As a result of the school shut down, estimates suggest students will return in the fall 2020 with roughly 70% of the learning gains in reading relative to a typical school year. However in mathematics, students are likely to show much smaller learning gains and in some grades, nearly a full year behind what we would observe in normal conditions. In orderto close the summer learning loss gap in math, students should be completing math activities.Just 1 hour per week or 10 minutes a day can make a difference to combat summer learning loss. Below is a recommended math practice opportunity with two options.Who: Every high school student (including Incoming 9th graders)What: Optional Summer Learning for MathWhere: In the comfort of your own home; just 10 minutes a day or 1 hour per weekWhen: Summer 2020How:Go to khanacademy.org/joinEnter your class code and press “Add”.If you don’t already have an account, press “Create a new account”. Edsel Ford’s Individualized and Personal Graduation will take place from 1:00 5:00 p.m. in the Edsel Ford Auditorium. Thank you to the Board of Education and Superintendent Maleyko for their efforts and commitment to our graduating class. Many details will follow in the coming weeks as we finalize the plan to honor this special graduating class that history will always remember. We have been working for hours and days to bring this moment to life. Class of 2020 you are our Class to remember!!While this is not the traditional ceremony that we all wanted to deliver and you so deserve. We have created a plan that is safe for all and is based on making decisions on the most current and best information available from Lansing and our local leaders. Our goal from the beginning has been to give each graduate an individualized and personal graduation experience. Each graduate will wear a cap and gown, have their name read, walk across a stage, take a picture and get acknowledged and be celebrated by their parents, dignitaries and staff as they are clapped out of the building in an Edsel Ford time honored tradition. This will all take place in the Edsel Ford auditorium which will be decorated with flowers, balloons, Congratulations banner, etc…. And we will have the A/C on!The total number allowed per family will be 3 (Graduate and 2 guests). Weeks ago we made the decision to postpone the original ceremony dates so that we could maximize the experience for the Class of 2020 as conditions have improved. In looking at the weather forecast for Monday, July 13th – it is forecast to be 89 degrees and sunny with the real feel temp of 95 degrees. On a football field that could reach 105 degrees or more. For everyone’s safety – we are committed to hold our ceremony in the safety and comfort of our beautiful auditorium. Planning this as an indoor event will allow for everyone to remain safe, comfortable and we will be able to deliver the best experience and memories possible for each graduate and family. Thank you for your ideas, patience and support through this entire experience. Many details and communication will take place in the coming weeks…. Stay tuned! Time to celebrate Thunderbirds!!The State, and our District, have begun the complicated and detailed discussion on the possible reopening of schools for the 2020-21 school year. These discussions will involve experts in instruction, operations, sanitation, transportation, food service, athletics, and many other areas that are part of operating a school district. Please know that any plans developed by the Dearborn Public Schools will need to adhere to directives and Executive Orders issued by the Governor.Your feedback is required and valued in leading these plans at the district level. Please respond to the survey by June 12, 2020. Please keep an eye out for additional parent surveys in the near furture.
