Situated in Narromine in the Central West of NSW,Chonico Bunnies is an active exhibiter as a member of The Rabbit Breeder's Association of NSW and The Rabbit Fancier's Society of NSW.We breed and exhibit to better the standard of our stock and to ensure that our rabbits meet the relevant standards for quality and type. Maintaining the quality and integrity of each breed is paramount to producing stock with reliable type and temperament. Our kittens do not leave our rabbitry until they are a minimum of ten weeks old to ensure their health and well being. Separating kittens from their mothers earlier than this can cause health issues which can so easily be alleviated by simply keeping them together till they are old enough to be parted. WE HAVE A RANGE OF RABBITS TO ENABLE US TO PRODUCE STOCK WITH OUTSTANDING QUALITIES AND TEMPERAMENTS. OUR AIM IS TO PRODUCE QUALITY FROM SOME OF THE BEST AVAILABLE LINES. AS WE PROGRESS WITH OUR SITE WE WILL POST PHOTOS OF OUR RABBITS TO EXHIBIT THE STOCK THAT WE HAVE AND ARE USING IN OUR STUD. WE EXHIBIT OUR RABBITS AT THE VARIOUS CLUB SHOWS IN SYDNEY.CANBERRA AND NEWCASTLE. THIS GIVES US THE FEEDBACK TO CONTINUE THE IMPROVEMENT IN THE QUALITY AND TYPE OF OUR RABBITS. WE HAVE HAD A GOOD DEAL OF SUCCESS ON THE SHOW TABLE AND CONTINUE TO BENEFIT FROM THE SCRUTINY OF OTHER EXPERIENCED BREEDERS AND JUDGES. SOME OF OUR SUCCESS IS DETAILED ON OUR 'SHOW BUNNIES' PAGE. We currenly breed Standard Rex in Castor and Black Otter, Dutch,Silver Fox, and Tan breeds. We have a range of quality stock to enable us to produce rabbits of good temperament for quality breeding stock,for show or for pets and to further the substantiation of the rarer breeds such as Dutch,Silver Fox, and Tans. THESE ARE TWO OF OUR BEAUTIFUL BUNNIES WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US. WE MISS THEM GREATLY. BUYER BEWARE . Dont buy any rabbit under the age of 8 weeks, it could be a death sentence. Warning to rabbit adopters !!!! Buying a Bunny Responsible rabbit breeders are often contacted by distraught pet owners. Many, having only just brought home a new pet rabbit find it dead only days later. We all know that bunnies are at their cutest when they are only a few weeks old, but this is not the time to bring them home to meet your family. If these bunnies are to have their best chance of survival they need to be able to fully wean from their mother. This process takes until they are a minimum of 8 weeks old.The weaning process The weaning process begins at 4-5 weeks, when the babies begin to ingest good bad bacteria. Some of this bacteria will become part of their normal gut 'flora', while other bacteria may be potentially harmful. In the intestine, the babies' pH levels are also changing. During this time the babies will still be feeding off their mother, and will be ingesting many of their mother's antibodies. These antibodies help the babies to kill harmful pathogens and bacteria that the babies have ingested from their environment. The pH levels of the mother's milk are also changing in tune with the pH levels of the babies' intestines. The babies need at least 8 weeks to fully wean from from their mother. This time is needed for sufficient establishment of a healthy immune system.The sad truth If a baby bunny is taken from it's mother and not given a full 8 weeks to wean it will suffer a very high risk of enteritis. This debilitating disease will see an inflammation of the intestinal lining, resulting in a fatal diarrhea. This risk of enteritis is further increased during periods of stress, such as the trauma of re-homing or sudden change of food supply. Be a responsible adopter, do not allow a bunny to die simply because it is cute at 4 weeks. Baby bunnies deserve the chance to grow up healthy and happy. Give them the best possible chance in life and wait until they are 8 weeks old before removing them from their mother.Where to buy There is no such thing in Australia as a registered breeder . Becoming a member of a rabbit club entitles you to all the benefits of membership of that club but no club whatsoever registers members as breeders.The people who advertise themselves as registered breeders are doing so falsely to create the impression that they are something they are not. The best place to purchase a rabbit is from a recognised breeder/exhibitor. These people are members of societies and clubs that mandate members don't sell their rabbits under the age of 10 weeks. Breeders/exhibitors are also extremely good sources of knowledge on how to care for and look after your pet rabbit. To find a breeder and/or exhibitor we recommend that you contact a rabbit society or association. Many of their websites have breeder directories to enable you to find a breeder near you or with the breed of bunny you would like to adopt.
