The AP Studio portfolios are designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. AP studio Art is not based on written exams; instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year. The AP Studio Art sets a national standard for performance in the visual arts that contributes to the significant role the arts play in academic environments. This College Board program provides the only national standard for performance in the visual arts that allows students to earn college credit and/or advance placement while still in high school. The AP program is based on the premise that college-level material can be taught successfully to secondary school students.General Learning Outcomes:Student Will:Demonstrate a breadth of high-quality work, 8 pieces, 2 digital photos of eachDevelop personal Concentrations of 12 piecesSelect five top-quality pieces for presentationDiscuss and record the development of the ConcentrationExplore postsecondary options. What are we going to be doing in AP Studio 3-D? This portfolio is intended to address sculptural issues. Design involves purposeful decision making about using the elements and principles of art in an integrative way. In the 3-D Design Portfolio, students are asked to demonstrate their understanding of design principles as they relate to depth and space. The principles of design (unity/variety, balance, emphasis, contrast, rhythm, repetition, proportion/scale, figure/ground relationship) can be articulated through the visual elements (mass, volume, color/light, form, plane, line, texture). This course has been developed to accommodate students who have expressed an interest in completing the AP Studio Art Portfolio. Through direct teacher instruction, emphasis will be placed on the production of a volume of quality pieces of artwork. Students will address all three sections of the portfolio: Breadth, Concentration, and Quality. Students will be challenged to develop their own personal work. Students will develop mastery of concept, composition, and execution of their personal ideas and themes. Students will also understand that art making is an ongoing process that uses informed and critical decision making to determine outcomes to problems. Students will be expected to develop a comprehensive portfolio that addresses each of these issues in a personal way. Formulatic solutions to problems are discouraged.AP Studio Art Drawing - NeufarthHumanities - MartellBeginning Band - MartellBeginning Band is a class that will emphasize the basics of playing instrumental music.  The class will be taught alongside the Intermediate band class, so students will often be given an assignment and expected to practice on their own.  The goal of this class is to help students reach the point where they can be a part of the Warrior Band the following year. Teacher: Michael MartellMusic Theory - MartellThis course will provide students with the basic skills of written and aural music theory.  After the students have completed the course, they will be well-equipped to study music theory at the college level.  Students taking Intro to Music Theory must also take either Advanced Band, Bluenotes, or Choir during the same school year.Teacher: Michael MartellConcert Band - MartellTeacher: Brandon MartellTeacher: Michael MartellArt l - NeufarthCourse Description:            An introductory art class designed to acquaint students to the visual arts.  The formal elements of art and principles of design are weight bearing pillars to curriculum.  Specific areas of study will include color, design, painting, drawing, charcoal, pastel, clay/pottery, sculpture, wire, watercolor/acrylic, collage, digital photography, mixed media, the four step critique process, and art history/art appreciation.Teacher: Michael MartellTeacher: Kristin NeufarthYearbook - Advanced - DupeeYearbook II is a 2-semester lab course in which students are responsible for the design and publication of the Calvary Christian High School Yearbook, the Kranion.
