Registration for the November virtual monthly meeting is open. The link to register is:https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZItc-GgqjotHNygor3ggaxTblhKphD74Zj8After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. You do not need to be a PCGS member to attend the live broadcast; however, membership is required for access to the handouts and the recording.Themeeting will begin with PCGS member Karen Winchestergiving a presentation on how the DAR is a great genealogical resource.Karen will give an overview of what it offers and how to use it. We will look at the DAR library, several databases, card catalog and bible records. With over 1 million members applications, there is an abundance of information available to all. Thanks to her mother s support, she has been a DAR member for over 30 years; her mother joined in 1979, and grandmother in 1972.Today Karen is the registrar for the Tucson Chapter of the DAR. She wants to share the resources of the DAR that are open to the public via on-line, to help you further your research andhopefully find a Revolutionary patriot and perhaps to a Mayflower passenger. Our guest speaker is former newspaper journalist Kristin Delaplane. She has been conducting oral histories since 1991. She received her training at UC Berkeley and is a Certified Oral Historian. In this talk she will cover the ten most common mistakes and give tips on conducting oral histories that will bring out the most information from the interviewee.Kristin helps people capture their family or company stories through video oral history interviews and historical and genealogy research. Many clients have her craft a storyline to be published in a custom-bound book. From the great American landscape her clients have included notable American families and celebrities, including Best Actor Oscar winners and a Kennedy Center Honoree. A former journalist with the San Francisco Chronicle, Kristin has published several books, was active as a museum oral historian, and wrote a history column for several years. Our monthly meetings begin at1:00 p.m. Arizona time.Thismeeting will be recorded as usual, so PCGS members will be able to watch it later if they are unable to attend live, or they may watch it to refresh their memories if they forget something. We hope that everyone stays safe and healthy during this difficult time. PCGS will continue to provide educational opportunities in a virtual format to meet the needs of the genealogical community and simultaneously doing our part to help stopping the spread. Effective 1 January 2020, our membership dues will increase from $20 for individual and $27 for family membershipsto $25 and $32 respectively. You can still join or renew at the existing $20/$27 prices until 31 December 2019 by visiting ourJoin / Renew pageand following the instructions. This is the first dues increase since our organization was founded in 2011 and represents the many membership benefits that have been added since then. Our logo is based onthe state flag of Arizona which represents the copper star of Arizona rising from a blue field in the face of a setting sun (quote from legislation). The 13 gold and red rays represent the sun setting over the western desert and the original 13 colonies. Red and gold colors were also carried by Coronado s Spanish expedition in search of the Seven Cities of Cibola in 1540. The center star signifies copper production. Arizona produces more copper than any other state in the country and one of its nicknames is the Copper State. The field of blue is the same liberty blue as the United States flag. Blue and old gold are also Arizona s official state colors. For more information about the state symbols of Arizona, visit the Arizona page of theState Symbols USA website.
