Welcome

I am a scientist of the future. I observe technology and its impact on transactions, money, economies, relationships, intimacy and personal identity.

We are at the very beginning of time for the human race. It is not unreasonable that we grapple with problems. But there are tens of thousands of years in the future. Our responsibility is to do what we can, learn what we can, improve the solutions, and pass them on.  ― Richard P. Feynman

Cybersecurity obsession

Well, it's official, I am obsessed with Cybersecurity.

It all started when I was asked to write a chapter for the Cyber Attack Survival Manual. This snowballed into becoming a co-author.

The Cyber Attack Survival Manual is a step-by-step guide to cyber defense. This book is mainly for everyday people, but security professions might learn one or two new things. My hacker genius colleague, Chris Rock (of DEF CON, How to overthrow a government fame) kindly says, “A must read for everyone from n00bs to experts, parents to pros.”

Around the time I was wrapping up that writing, a military project took a decidedly cybersecurity turn. The project focused on the military learning environment, but I needed context to show the new training technologies. Voila - the cybersecurity war game. And then, because I am a perfectionist when it comes to the details of my future scenarios, I thought about future OSs, SIEMs, vulnerabilities, attacks, and counterattacks. My obsession grew.

U.S. Army cyber security war game set in 2021. I created this video for the U.S. Army showing military training for a cybersecurity war game set in 2021. This project is what ignited my cybersecurity obsession...

A few months later, I was asked to submit a paper on "Security in 2038." I used this excuse to kick off research on The Future of Cybersecurity.

Co-authored (with Bob Blakley) of, Shifting Paradigms: Using Strategic Foresight to Plan for Security Evolution, for the New Security Paradigms Workshop. Our paper details over 20 new security paradigms and future scenarios.

I don't plan on stopping this obsession anytime soon. Want my cybersecurity research updates? Sign up for my non-spammy email list.
