Train to Teach: The Impact of EnCorps

To address the STEM teacher shortage, EnCorps has been working earnestly since 2007 to recruit the best and brightest science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals to teaching, providing meaningful opportunities to impact students in low-income communities. We believe all students deserve access to a great STEM teacher, a great STEM education and all the opportunities that those can provide. We’re here to address the conditions limiting under-resourced student opportunities.

EnCorps Fellows, who become EnCorps STEM Teachers in under-resourced schools, are connecting students to real-world math and science career and economic opportunities, preparing the STEM workforce pipeline, and transforming public education statewide.

Testimonials

Thanks to EnCorps, I got into the classroom quicker, and am better equipped to help my students understand scientific concepts. I help my students see the relevance of science in their personal lives, and to the world at large. Bryan WassermanEnCorps Fellow“Having Mr. Lewis come from an aerospace background is amazing. From the designing of paper airplanes to the unfortunate losses of model rockets to the discussions of real-world news and events every class, I learned something every day that I was in that classroom."Kevyn Solis-Aguilar, StudentSTEM Academy of HollywoodThis transition has been magnificent. I LOVE teaching. It is an honor and privilege to be part of my student's lives. Thanks, EnCorps for your support in my transition to teaching. Bob CaprilesEnCorps FellowI think the professionals from EnCorps are in a unique position to share their practical knowledge of how STEM can open doors to a wide variety of exciting careers. They have the ability to connect the curriculum to what a scientist or engineer would be doing on a daily basis at work. EnCoprs teachers are also great role models in so many ways, not only as STEM professionals, but also in terms of showing students that careers can change over time. They also model how important it is to pursue a profession that is both fulfilling and intellectually rigorous.Dr. Lisa MedoffProfessor, Adolescent Psychology, Stanford UniversityI would love to be a teacher who calls my students to aspire to achieve more than their circumstances say they can achieve.LaTeira HaynesEnCorps Fellow“Ms. Hagey tries harder to feel connected to the students. She stays at tutoring in the library after school. She is the one teacher I know is going to be there.”StudentHoover High School, San DiegoPreviousNext
