Click Here Spring VMTA MeetingAs we start to emerge from the pandemic with vaccinations underway, I am hopeful that we will all be able to gather again in person in near future. However, at this time, we feel it is best to continue with a virtual meeting for our Spring meeting. We received great feedback from our Fall meeting regarding the virtual format, so we are excited to be able to offer this again to our membership. Our Spring meeting will take place on Sunday, June 13th at 9:00am-2:00pm via Zoom. We will have two CMTE presentations lined up for you for a total of 4 CMTE credits. Kayce Soros, MT-BC will present on Polyvagal Theory and Ted Ficken, Ph.D., CPHQ, MT-BC, will present on the genre of hate music and the work of music therapists across the nation who work with this type of music as well as those who work to promote health and wellness in their communities.Warm Regards, Kelsi Tafaro, VMTA President Registration

Music Therapy

Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program (American Music Therapy Association, 2017).

Areas addressed in music therapy include but are not limited to: physical, psychological, cognitive, social, spiritual, and musical functioning for patients and clients of all ages. Music therapists work across the lifespan (infancy to end-of-life care) and in a variety of settings from schools, hospitals, clinics, communities, and more. Music therapists are nationally certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT). Professionals who have achieved and maintained certification legally hold the credential “Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC).”

The Virginia Music Therapy Associations mission is to advance music therapy as a professional discipline in the state of Virginia. We seek to engage and involve music therapy professionals and students who are committed to advocating, educating and legislating for the profession of music therapy.
