Human remains report
SeptemberThe number of migrant deaths reported by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner in September was 27.
Recently found individuals grouped by PMI (Post Mortem Interval):
6 dead less than a day
5 dead less than 1 week
2 dead less than 3 weeks
2 dead less than 3 months
1 dead less than 6-8 months
10 dead more than 6-8 months
1 PMI not yet availabe
Total: 27
Note: For one of these 27 cases the remains were recovered in May and not processed until September. This has been added to the May figures in the attached chart with September showing 26.
Updates for previous cases:
32 individuals newly identified by name (1,442 cases remain unidentified)
The breakdown by PMI shows that half the September deaths are estimated to have been discovered within 3 weeks of death. This is very similar to the pattern for last month. However, the total number of deaths reported jumped from 16 in August (representing a dip from the previous few months) and the increase in September shows up in the "more than 6-8 months" category. See the attached chart for a fuller picture.
Most of the deaths occurred west of the Baboquivari Mountains; there were two exceptions in the Nogales/I-19 corridor and one just west of the New Mexico line.See all 27 sites mapped online at https://humaneborders.info/latest/.

NOGALES, Ariz. Video footage shared with the Center for Biological Diversity seems to show construction equipment leveling Arizona mountains in critical habitat for endangered jaguars, in an apparent violation of President Bidens proclamation halting border wall construction. The footage was reportedly shot on Wednesday, Feb. 10, by members of the Tucson Samaritans, who shared it with the Center.
