The Will to See A Pacific Northwest Mom with two boys on the journey of life I am not a big believer in New Year’s resolutions. They always feel like they have to be big life-changing things that are not realistically achieved. Instead, I like the idea of goals or things you want to accomplish. I was listening to Gretchen Rubin’s “Happier” podcast and she was creating an 18 for 2018 I am back writing here after going quiet unceremoniously.  But as you will see in the coming weeks and months, there were reasons for that. I started to wonder what I was trying to do on the blog. When I started writing 8 ½ years ago, the blog was my coping mechanism, a safe space I wrote a few weeks ago about attending a talk by Penny Kittle about helping kids with writing skills at home. In the previous post I shared about how reading helps with writing skills. One of the tips she gave for helping kids with writing is to start a family journal. The journal is something Last week I went to a talk by Penny Kittle sponsored by our school district on how to help your kids with writing at home. During the hour and a half presentation she spent more than half the time talking about the importance of reading. Scholastic published a report on reading in 2014 that shows Happy Thanksgiving from our little turkey. Will brought home the turkey hat and his thankful turkey from school. Last week on the way to the bus stop Will pointed out that Islay has a waddle like a turkey. In case you need a translation on this written thankful words they are from right to left, In fourth grade the kids learn to play the recorder. Jack brought his home about a month ago and is working at learning his first few songs. Each time he practices Islay goes crazy. We can’t decide if she likes it or hates it. She doesn’t run away, but in some cases will run from Photo Friday – Halloween 2014 Halloween this year was full of heroes. Jack was Donatello from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Will was Superman and Islay was Supergirl. Supergirl didn’t cooperate very well for the photo of their backs. I felt well protected last night. This is Jack’s star week at school. One of the things we were asked to do is send in a letter that his teacher would read to the class. Taking inspiration from my friend Laura’s letter to her Will, I wrote a poem about Jack. Our boy Jackson Edward Was excited to meet us He Will’s evaluation with his school has been completed and he has been placed on an individualized education plan, IEP. We are very pleased with the results and the way the school is looking out for Will. During the evaluation process he was visited by Krista, his vision specialist, in his classroom. She observed him in I am less than two weeks from my 40th birthday. Although I didn’t get my countdown written out like I had planned, I have spent plenty of time reflecting in my head. My husband Jim has done a wonderful job of reflecting on me with his 40to40 countdown on Facebook. For those that haven’t had I am a working mom of two boys and a swissy, wife of almost 2 decades living in the greater Seattle area.
