The Lutheran School of Nursing has been educating nurses for more than 100 years. Located in South St. Louis on the Jefferson campus of St. Alexius Hospital, the School is a department of St. Alexius Hospital. We are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), have conditional approval from the Missouri State Board of Nursing, and authorized to operate by the Missouri Department of Higher Education. We offer today's students a 26-month hospital-based diploma nursing program that includes both a Registered Nurse Track and a Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nurse [LPN to RN] Bridge Track. In addition to hands on clinical experience, nursing students receive classroom instruction in our Educational Building, which includes a health science library, instructional laboratories, classrooms and conference areas. Student housing, financial aid, counseling services and leadership opportunities are available. Our mission is to educate nursing graduates who will be of help to others. To complete the program students will meet these Specific Competencies of the Graduate Nurse:Utilize evidence for nursing care to improve the health and well-being of patients across the lifespan.Demonstrate safe nursing skills and clinical reasoning for comprehensive patient-centered care.Collaborate effectively for the advocacy of patients within the family and community context.Perform patient-centered care with effective patient educatidetermination, integrity, and on-going growth. Utilize community resources to meet the continuing health care needs of patients within the family/community systems. Practice professional nursing identity incorporating accountability, responsibility, and ethical commitment. Utilize the nurse's role to demonstrate caring and advocacy for diverse patients within the family and community context. Utilize a spirit of inquiry to challenge assumptions, investigate evidence, and offer new insights that support the safety and improvement of patient care.
