(Go Bulldogs!)Prior to teaching at LEHS, I taught chemistry at other schools in the greaterBoston area. Chemistry remains my favorite of the sciences, but physics is myfavorite subject to teach. I also coach the LEHSScience Team. I hold a National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)certification in Science: Adolescence Young Adulthood. I am an activeparticipant in the Boston University Physics Teacher Network (BU-PTN) and aco-author of one of the inquiry lab experiments in theAP Chemistry lab manual. I also teachAP Physics workshops for Mass Insight Education. I was born in December 1964, which places me at the tail end of the BabyBoomers, but I identify much more with Generation X. I grew up in Big Flats, NewYork and went to school in Corning,where I graduated as salutatorian of Corning-Painted Post East HighSchool in 1983. I earned two bachelor of science (S.B.) degrees from MIT, one in chemical engineering (1987) and one in biology (1988). After college, I worked as a chemical process engineer for AdvancedMagnetics (now AMAG Pharmaceuticals),and then as a software engineer and operations manager for several startupcompanies. I started my teaching career in 2003. I married my wife Nancy (a fellow MIT graduate) in 1996, and we went toAntarctica for our honeymoon. We have two amazing daughters. My gender ismale, and I use he/him pronouns. Interests My primary interests outside of school are music and dance. I am principalviolist of the ReadingSymphony Orchestra, and I also play viola with Symphony by theSea, the NewEngland Philharmonic, and the brand new Firebird Pops Orchestra. I sing and actwith the North CambridgeFamily Opera Company. I am the dance foreman (teacher) and lead musicianfor two morris dance teams: Red Herring Morris, an adult team, and Banbury Cross Morris, achildren's team (age 9 through high school). I have a wide range of otherhobbies and interests as well, including caving, scuba diving, coffee roasting,locksmithing, roleplaying LARPs, bicycling, travel, amateur radio,camping hiking, computers, photography, theater, skiing, trains, and coincollecting.
