This study investigated the impact of the complex hemodynamics found in stenosed arteries on thrombus formation. It identified a bi-phasic process of thrombus development on immobilized fibrinogen and other weak adhesive surfaces, such as laminins or thrombospondin-1, that relies on von Willebrand factor and occurs specifically under shear rate gradients. Myeloid and lymphoid malignancies are postulated to have distinct pathogenic mechanisms. This study identified 599 patients with a myeloproliferative neoplasm and a concomitant or subsequent diagnosis of lymphoma. The authors suggest that a myeloproliferative neoplasm and lymphoproliferative malignancy may have common pathogenic events, possibly already at the progenitor level. Through the generation of a novel humanized zebrafish that expresses key hematopoietic cytokines, this study exploits the previously recognized imaging and higher-throughput screening advantages of the zebrafish model system to create a powerful new preclinical tool. This model can be used to validate anti-leukemic and stem cell expanding therapeutics and for related screening. Twenty-six children with acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) underwent HLA class II typing. As in adults, HLA-DRB1*11 was identified as a susceptibility factor for TTP. Previous reports showed the association between HLADRB1*11 and other autoimmune diseases, so long-term follow-up of patients with child-onset acquired TTP is required for early detection of other autoimmune diseases.
