Welcome to the Guitar KnowledgeNet Learning Center. Since 2004 GKN has been helping guitarists from around the world better understand music theory and how it applies to the guitar. GKN offers tools, lessons, and other learning resources for guitarists of all levels. For advance players we offer tools for expressing yourselves to other musicians. For example, the Tab Builder and Chord Diagram Builders let you build chord diagrams and Tabs that can be used like emoticons anywhere in the site.

New Tools for GKN Version 5.0

GKN has more learning and teaching tools than ever before.

Along with improvements to the Tab Builder, three new things to look for in GKN V5 are the Chord Information Page, Practice Schedule Builder, and the Tab Builder Library. These apps now join favorites like the GKN Progression Generator in our ever growing list of learning and teaching tools.

The Spotlight is on You

Also, browse some of the hundreds of other profiles that are up there so far. You can gleam some great insight by reading how different player approach the guitar. There are some great players up there so check them out and then put up own profile so we can learn more about you.

Learn More About Your Instrument

GKN is all about learning new stuff. Starting with the most basic concepts we build an understanding of how music works and then learn how to apply these ideas to our guitar. The topics of music theory and its application to guitar are such huge topics you could spend a life time and not learn all there is to know. We have a lot here for a guitarist to learn. No matter your skill level, with the thousands of chords, scales, progressions, lessons, and tabs available chances are good that you will be able to learn something new every time you visit GKN.

Share Knowledge and Exchange Ideas

Here you are not just the student you are also the teacher. At GKN you are encouraged to pass along the knowledge you have to others through lessons, woodshed tablature submissions, and forum posts. If you have knowledge worth sharing please, step on up, don't be shy... This is exactly why GKN was created.

To help members express their musical knowledge GKN has a bunch of easy to use tools that help you create lesson element such as chord diagrams or tablature. The output from these tools can be used throughout GKN just like using emoticons. You can even use these elements in other websites too.

We're All Friends Here

GKN boasts some of the coolest members on any network out there. There is very little negativity and people always seem to be ready to help out new comers. Some of these guys have been around for a long time now and really know their stuff. If you have a question, dont understand something or just want to start a conversation about your favorite guitarist or whatever there are lot of people who are more than happy to lend a hand or just talk about whatever is up for discussion. So, don't be shy, create your account and get in on the conversation.

What the Heck is a KnowledgeNet

In the early 2000's when the idea for GKN was being kicked around the term KnowledgeNet was used a lot by tech geeks to describe a place where you stored information. The idea was that knowledge from a bunch of remote sources would be gathered and kept in one place. If anyone needed to know about any aspect of a system they could use the KnowledgeNet to find out what they needed to know. This idea seemed to mesh with the concept of the site and so Guitar KnowledgeNet was created. To this day the idea remains the same, GKN looks to those of you who have knowledge in a hope that you will pass this knowledge to others looking for it.

Members Have More Fun

Once you sign up the real fun can start. You can create your profile, share music you create, promote your band or yourself, talk to other GKN member and even compete in guitar duels.

And while most of the learning tools on GKN don't require you to login some of the coolest do. For example, the practice schedule builder, tab creator, and the tablature archive all require a membership. Members also see some apps before they go to everyone eles, our newest app the Tab Builder Library is a good example of this. Registering is free and easy so the "Create GKN Account" button below and get started now.
