Amy McKenzie Smith Vice President Student Activities The Freshers’ Festival is your chance to meet and sign up for over 100 of our fantastic student clubs and societies!Usually this event (formerly the Freshers' Fair) takes place in the Main Building, and is one of the biggest events we run on campus during Freshers’ Week. This year due to COVID-19 we’ve had to approach this event differently and very carefully. Thanks to a lot of intense planning over a number of months and collaboration with staff all over the University, we’re confident we’ve come up with a fab system that will allow you to enjoy the experience of meeting clubs, societies and sports clubs, in a safe, risk-managed and enjoyable way. I can't believe it is already time to be handing the reigns of the SRC over to my successor, a year in this job goes really quickly. We are so excited that Freshers' Week will be going ahead this year! The uncertain world we're living in does mean there will be some changes to how the week normally runs, however you can be sure that that GUSRC, plus the 3 other student bodies, will provide an accessible, exciting and most of all safe welcome to all new UofG students. To all University of Glasgow students,We have all been watching the recent events unfold in America and seen the brutal killing of George Floyd coupled with centuries of systemic racism spark protests and demonstrations across the world, including here in Glasgow. More people are actively engaging with the Black Lives Matters movement and once again there have been reopened conversations about racism and anti-blackness. We want to reiterate that GUSRC stands in solidarity with those calling for equality and have actively voiced our support for those involved in the ongoing fight for equal rights both in America and globally, and will continue to do so Today many of you will have just finished your exams and deadlines. Some of you might be thinking of going on to do further studies, and for others these may be your last ever exams and you’re starting to think about what comes next.
