We are one of many craft brewers of British Ales to be found in Nottinghamshire and indeed, across the country. Our aim is to help continue the growth of Real Ale by providing a range of good quality, distinctive Real Ales. "In May 2014 we opened our brewery tap, the Old Volunteer in Carlton Square, Nottingham. The pub has nine real ales on hand pull, four of which are Flipside brewery beers with five regularly changing guest beers. We are proud to be both CaskMarque and LocAle accredited and take great pride in the quality of our beers. The Old Volunteer also offers a range of craft keg beers, bottled Belgian beers and over 40 whiskies from around the globe (but mainly Scotland). Complementing a small but excellent food menu, great decor and an excellent, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, a visit to the Old Volunteer is not to be missed" After a lot of thought about a name for a brewery we came up with Flipside, a reference to the coin collecting hobby of our head brewer. This also provides the theme for the names of the beers which are loosely based around coins and currency, apart from when we can’t resist using the word "flipping"! Copper Penny An easy drinking session bitter. Light brown, moderately bitter but with good hop flavours, ending with a hint of tangerine. At 4.2%, a quick selling beer Sterling Pale A fairly hoppy pale ale. Easy drinking with a bitter, spicy hop flavour. At 3.9%, a good session ale Flipping Best A traditional dark brown best bitter. Strong malt flavours complemented with good bitterness and gentle hop flavours. At 4.6%, a popular beer for the bitter lover Dusty Penny A full bodied Porter. Bursting with chocolate, caramel and vanilla malt flavours rounded off with bitterness provided by traditional English hops. At 5.0%, a black beer which will delight the connoisseur Golden Sovereign A golden coloured 4.2% session ale. Refreshingly bitter with dry biscuit flavours, American hops are added to produce pleasant citrus and grapefruit flavour in the finish Franc In Stein A yellow gold 4.3% ale with light peach and citrus flavour, very drinkable. Clippings IPA A traditional strong IPA at 6.5% golden in colour with crushed gooseberry and bitter white wine hop flavours. Russian Rouble A strong dark 7.3% Russian Imperial Stout with rich chocolate and malt flavours. Brewed using traditional English hops. Multi award winning ale
