Description:

Welcome to the Computational Biology and Informatics Laboratory (CBIL) in the Institute for Biomedical Informatics. The goal of our work is to help make sense of the enormous amount of biomedical data generated by high-throughput genomic approaches and synthesize them into something more than the sum of the parts. To that end, we are developing tools that enable researchers to mine and integrate data from a variety of different sources and types of experiments. In particular we are applying these approaches to expand our understanding in the areas of diabetes and infectious disease. We model data with networks and reality with ontologies especially the Ontology for Biomedical Investigations (OBI) for the latter. CBIL is directed by Chris Stoeckert who is faculty in the Department of Genetics and the Genomics and Computational BIology Graduate Group in the Perelman School of Medicine and a member of the Penn Genome Frontiers Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Stoeckert is a Board member of the Functional Genomics Data (FGED) Society.Department of GeneticsInstitute for Biomedical InformaticsGenomics and Computational Biology Graduate GroupPenn Genome Frontiers InstituteFunctional Genomics Data (FGED) SocietyOntology for Biomedical Investigations Friday, January 3, 2020 - 13:23 The EuPathDB project was an NIAID supported Bioinformatics Resource Center (https://www.niaid.nih.gov/research/bioinformatics-resource-centers). The contract for the project has been renewed with EuPathDB and VectorBase merging to form the Eukaryotic Pathogen, Host Vector Genomics Resource (VEuPathDB; https://veupathdb.org). New release of the EuPathDB Ontology Thursday, January 24, 2019 - 12:07 A new version of the EuPathDB ontology was released January 8, 2019. The EuPathDB Ontology provides the underlying semantics for structured terms displayed on EuPathDB websites including ClinEpiDB and MicrobiomeDB. In this version, definitions have been provided for nearly all EuPathDB classes, terms have been imported from other ontologies, and undefined terms not used on EuPathDB web sites have been obsoleted. The EuPathDB Ontology is available on ontology browsers such as Ontobee (http://www.ontobee.org/ontology/EUPATH). Friday, February 23, 2018 - 16:15 ClinEpiDB is an open-access online resource enabling investigators to maximize the utility and reach of their clinical epidemiological data and to make optimal use of information released by others. See details in the article at PennNews.
