The fact is that the annualtonnage of fishing has decreased by a great dealin the past five years. However, I am not asconcerned about fishing in the open seas as aboutfishing on the spawning grounds. Take, forexample, salmon. We catch these when theygather for breeding. We do the same thing withtuna and mullets, catching them near the shoreduring mating season.I suppose we're in danger of seriously depletingour supply of food from the ocean?The risk in our food supply is not the onlyproblem. The depleting of our resources from theocean is not merely a matter of fishing, you know.Don't forget oil pollution. Ships frequently spill oilalong our coasts, wiping out millions of fish anddestroying plant life.I am sure that there is a great deal more that youcan say on this topic, and I hope we will be ableto continue another time.
