The Use of Insulating Concrete Forms for Commercial Construction - Contractors PerspectiveLearn more The Use of Insulating Concrete Forms for Commercial Construction - Contractors Perspective 2021-01-06 10:00:00 2021-01-06 11:00:00 Lighter, faster and more cost effective than other forms of construction, Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) are quickly becoming the construction method of choice for all forms of construction including single and multi-family, hotels, schools, offices. Concrete contractors, masons and framers have an opportunity to learn how their trade can work with ICFs to enhance their competitiveness in today s construction environment. The presentation will focus on how to communicate basic ICF detailing, design efficiencies, and other necessary information to designers who may not be familiar with ICF construction. Also included in the presentation will be information on how ICF s can affect other sections of the specification, best construction practices, and tips on how to determine labor costs for an ICF project. The presenters will be Justice Olson (Nudura) and D.C. Mangimelli (Fox Blocks)Attendees will be issued a certificate of attendance for one PDH. The presentation has also been approved for 1 AIA CES LU. ACI Concrete Flatwork Associate and Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher Certification Review and Written ExaminationLearn more ACI Concrete Flatwork Associate and Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher Certification Review and Written Examination 2021-01-13 07:30:00 2021-01-13 15:00:00 ACI Concrete Flatwork Associate and Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher Certification Review and Written ExaminationIf needed, this class will be changed to a virtual classroom review with appointments made for in-person exams.Concrete Flatwork AssociateA Concrete Flatwork Associate (formerly Concrete Flatwork Technician) is a person who has demonstrated knowledge (via a written examination) on proper procedures to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork.Certification Requirements: ACI will grant certification to those candidates who obtain a passing grade on the written examination. The two-hour written examination is closed-book and consists of approximately 50 multiple-choice questions. The passing grade for the written examination is 70%.Recertification is necessary every five years and requires successful completion of a written examination OR 10 hours documented continuing education from an approved source. Individuals with Concrete Flatwork Associate certification can upgrade to Advanced Finisher status upon submittal and approval of sufficient work experience or combination of sufficient work experience and passing the ACI performance examination. Certification at the Advanced Finisher level is valid for the remainder of the original Associate certification period.Advanced Concrete Flatwork FinisherAn Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher (formerly Concrete Flatwork Finisher and Technician) is a craftsman who has demonstrated the knowledge AND skills and/or experience necessary to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork.Certification Requirements: ACI will grant certification to those candidates who obtain a passing grade on the written examination PLUS either:Possess 4,500 hours of actual on-the-job finishing* experience (approximately three years of regular full-time work) OR possess 1,500 hours of actual on-the-job finishing* experience (approximately one year of regular full-time work) AND successfully complete the performance examination**.**MCC will NOT be offering a performance examination at this class, so anyone seeking Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher Certification at this class MUST possess 4,500 hours of actual on-the-job finishing experience.Recertification is necessary every five years and requires successful completion of either a written examination, or a combination of 10 hours documented continuing education from an approved source and 4500 hours of verified continuing work experience attained within the previous 5 years.*Finishing experience includes concrete placement, consolidation, jointing, curing and protection, finishing, form setting, prep work, rubbing, patching, and saw cutting. Verification of the work experience by the candidate s employer(s) is required. This presentation is part of the Sustainable Structures Webinar Series. The Sustainable Structures Webinar Series was developed cooperatively by cast-in-place and precast concrete associations from the Midwest region of the United States including Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The goal of the cooperative effort is to bring a greater awareness of the sustainable and resilient nature of concrete building systems to the design, construction, and development communities via quality continuing education programs. Now that architects have a good understanding of environmental impacts related to energy use, the next design frontier in tackling climate change is reducing the embodied carbon in buildings. This live webinar will focus on best practices for determining the embodied carbon in a building, including credible sources for embodied carbon data. It will introduce common practices and misconceptions about comparisons of embodied carbon. A case study will be presented that highlights how design decisions may be influenced when comparing among up-front carbon, use-phase carbon, or whole-life carbon. The presentation will highlight existing tools related to quantifying embodied carbon. The presenter will be Emily Lorenz, PE.The presentation is approved for 1 AIA LU/HSW This meeting is intended for members of the MCC Executive Committee. It is an invite only meeting. Questions? Our members represent the broadest based membership of any other local or regional organization in the cast-in-place concrete industry.Membership represents design, construction and support industries associated with reinforced and post-tensioned concrete construction. MCC is a member-driven organization that derives its strength from both the diversity and involvement of its members. Take advantage of all MCC has to offer by joining today!Learn MoreInvolvement with MCC has given me a direct connection to the best and brightest in Minnesota s concrete industry, from concrete and cement suppliers, to concrete design experts, to concrete product suppliers.Thor Heimdahl, PE, SE Sr. Structural Engineer at Life Time Architecture DesignPeople don t know what they re missing. MCC has a tradition at its breakfast meetings that all attendees stand up and introduce themselves and tell everyone what they do. When you see the players in that room, you realize how important it is to be there. If you re in this industry, you need contacts and resources. And they re all in that room!Dean Stroschein Trade Superintendent at Knutson ConstructionParticipating in MCC has given me the opportunity to connect with and learn about the perspectives of other individuals involved in concrete construction. As a design engineer, it has been immensely helpful to learn more about how suppliers, contractors, and testing agencies perform their duties.Doug Nagel - Associate, Senior Structural Engineer at VAA, LLC
