By logging in to LiveJournal using a third-party service you accept LiveJournal's User agreement We are happy to have you here. To get you information as quick as possible, and avoid repeat posts, please do a couple things for us before posting: * Please read the userinfo (see "About the Comm" above). It contains a few basic rules about posts. * Read the FAQ post, look through the memories (in the links section to your left), and check out the tag list. Your question may be answered there. * If you are new, you might want to just read the comm for a couple days--you'd be amazed how much you can learn. Of course, if you need a question answered immediately that's fine.Other than that...Welcome to probably the most comprehensive body of IUD information in LJ-comm form.****Obligatory Note: We aren't doctors. I have had the Liletta now for 6 months I decided to get it after being on the pill for many years and had great results always remembered to take it and predictable Short periods but I wanted something that I could deal with once and then forget about it, go IUD simplicity! I am 32 years old and never been pregnant. My periods have been 10 days long since getting the IUD! And some days it’s only spotting so I can wear a panty liner and be all set but sometimes out of no where it’s really heavy. Some days I go all day with no bleeding and then bleed heavily in the evenings. I’ve had to be very on my toes and had a few embarrassing moments with bleeding through my pants I feel like a young girl just figuring it all out again. I have started using a menstrual disc so I can wear one all day and no have to worry about bleeding heavily or not at all!Anyone else experience such unpredictability? Does it get better with time or what tricks do you use to get through it? Thank you Divas! Jul. 3rd, 2020 at 10:58 AM iud_divasksweensI have had my IUD for 5 years, and I have loved it! This morning I had a totally new and unusual experience. I woke up with severe cramping in my uterus, which seems to have been related to gas pains. Occasionally I get pain with gas/or if I have to go number 2, but today was a whole new level. I had sex last night, and then just now was feeling for my IUD strings to check, and could barely feel them. Has anyone else ever experienced this, or is it possible my IUD has shifted? Trying to decide if I need to get it checked out. I also have the slightest bit of pink on my toilet paper when I wipe- like super mild blood, but I do tend to spot between periods and this is about when I would normally start spotting. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ladies! Jun. 25th, 2020 at 2:27 PM iud_divasbooksnstuffsHi there,I had my Mirena inserted almost three years ago (July 2017) and overall, it s been great. My periods stopped fully six months after insertion and now I just have random spotting. Usually, the spotting happens maybe once every three to six months and it s usually after sex/when I orgasm. Before I got my Mirena, I d been on Yaz for ten years. This past month, though, I ve spotted twice after sex. The first time was two weeks ago and it wasn t heavy, but heavier than my previous spotting. (Light pink-ish red, no need for a pad and it stopped after 24hrs) I had sex three or four days after that and didn t have any spotting. When I had sex yesterday, though, I spotted but it was incredibly light. I only noticed it because I was looking. After a bowl movement today (TMI!) I noticed there s still light spotting. No other problems or pain.In April, I went on a medication that can, in theory, lower the effectiveness of progesterone-only BC, but my doctor told me no one has ever had failure of efficacy on it. And since the Mirena is really localized and not in the blood stream as much as HBC pills, I haven t been concerned. The meds levels have been the same since late April--nothing has changed with the dosage this month--so I don t think it s related.Anyone have any insight? My strings feel fine and don t appear to be a different length. I had a vaginal ultrasound done in early 2018 to confirm placement and everything was fine. I have a retroverted uterus though, if that plays into this at all. I ve also been under an immense amount of stress (pandemic and job-stuff) the past few weeks. Thanks in advance!Tags: bleeding, mirena Apr. 22nd, 2020 at 11:45 AM iud_divasls_maHi everyone, I’m very new here and am glad to have found this community! I’ve got a bit of a problem with my Mirena and would really appreciate some insights! Background: I’ve (24 years old, NP) got my Mirena since October 2018. It’s been a very pleasant experience overall, and apart from minor complaints like mid cycle bleeding once a year, I love it. I’ve had three checkups ever since having it inserted, and the positioning was apparently great. I myself can’t check because the strings are trimmed very short. Now for my problem: I am currently experiencing my worst IBS flare up in 10 years and was constipated for days until today. My stomach was distended and I felt a painful pressure, and despite 7 (!) laxatives, I didn’t have a bowel movement until this morning. Some of the laxatives I took over the past three days, were CO2 suppositories which distend the colon to facilitate things. Suddenly three hours after taking the last one yesterday, I started having uterine cramps and bleeding. Could my IUD have come out from all the straining on the toilet and pressure from my colon, or was this a random bleeding event? It completely stopped as of today, but I now have quite a bit of lower back pain. Thanks!Tags: bleeding, cramping, expulsion, mirena Apr. 12th, 2020 at 1:00 AM iud_divasucantreallytellHi divas,I'll jump straight into my insertion story and leave my comments for the end, just in case you divas are short on time. First, finding a doctor.(Read more...Collapse)Second, push-back from Planned Parenthood. They wanted me to keep my Mirena for two more years.(Read more...Collapse)Once I was called in for my appointment, I was told that my Planned Parenthood location no longer carried the Mirena. They carried the Liletta, as they found it was easier to get insurances to pay for it. The Mirena, according to the assistant, costs around $1,200. The Liletta, she said, costs around $700. She also let me know that the Liletta is FDA approved for six years, unlike Mirena's five-year approval. I had already researched the Liletta before my appointment just in case I encountered this very scenario. And I decided that one extra year of FDA-approved protection was fine by me, especially since the amount of hormones contained in Liletta is the same. The rest of my appointment was pretty textbook. I was given some animal crackers because I hadn't eaten in a few hours. I'd taken 800 mg of Ibuprofen about 45 minutes before my appointment time. I asked for a topical numbing agent for my cervix and my practitioner complied. I was told to cough while my uterus was being measured and again when the IUD was inserted. I asked for the strings not to be too short, as my last doctor, an older gentleman, had cut them really short.Final thoughts.(Read more...Collapse) Jan. 19th, 2020 at 6:32 PM iud_divasmeerkatmanor95I got Mirena in April 2016 and bled/spotted consistently for like 8-10 weeks before it stopped pretty much completely. I really didn't have super heavy periods or cramping before getting an IUD, once in a while I would take an ibuprofen because my belly was uncomfortable enough, and that's it. I've been blessed for 3.5 years not having to think about tampons etc etc. However, about 6 (?) months ago, I started bleeding again. And having cramps that are way worse than I ever had before the IUD. It seems to be at least semi-cyclical but I haven't been able to pinpoint that. When I tried to ask questions about that concern and wanted to schedule an OB appt. in October, they asked me about the strings and as far as I know my strings/placement is fine. So I got the first appt. available, this Friday January 24th :'''') At this point I'm pretty sure I'm anemic.I'm curious if that's something that can happen as you get closer to the 5 year mark? Like a re-starting of pretty typical (?) period symptoms, after going without for 3 years? Jan. 5th, 2020 at 10:28 PM iud_divasspeakezzyHey all. 21, NP :) I recently got my Paragard inserted last December 4, and I bled pretty much for the first few days and got my period. My next period is estimated to be on January 5, and it's not here yet. My usual cycle is 28-29 days. I've only been late a few times in my life, mostly when I was a teen and when I had sex for the first time. However, my period is late by a day and I'm getting a bit nervous.I haven't yet had my first IUD check-up (scheduled on the 8th) because I supposed that my period would've come by then and I was advised by the nurse to come back when my period's over. This would be my second period on Paragard.I know how much everyone hates asking about pregnancy chances, but I'd be pretty darned surprised if I got pregnant from sex in which my guy used a condom and pulled out right smack before my ovulation week.I came off birth control in early November after having only used it for a month.I'm really nervous about this, so does anybody have experiences of their Paragard periods being late? Taking a pregnancy test tomorrow to be sure. Thanks, Divas! Nov. 14th, 2019 at 9:59 PM iud_divascivilenginerdHi, I'm new to the community, but I wanted to thank all you ladies for the great info and all your stories; and to appologize for the typos and misspellings, phones are not meant to be substitutes for computers sometimes. I also wanted to see if any of you ladies have had a similar experience to mine, if my situation is normal, or if I should be genuinely concerned.I've had a copper IUD for 2 years, had a horrendous time after insertion for about the first 2 months, but I absolutely LOVE having my IUD. My periods fluctuate between heavy to moderate, month to month, and I have no other problems beside the following: So, for the last 2 or 3 weeks, maybe a month, I've began to have cramps after EVERY bowel movement. Sorry for the TMI, but I really don't know if this is normal. I'm also a grad student between insurances right now,so a trip to my gyno would probably be equivalent to my meals for the next few weeks,so gotta be sure I'm really in need of an appointment and not over exagerating. The pain starts AFTER the BM, never during. It's usually more on the left side, like I can pin point the exact spot I feel things at. I don't know if it's just because of the muscle contractions.I've also noticed pink (blood) discharge after sex.Today, I'm having a feeling in my uterus, not necessarily pain. I mean, there is some pain, like cramping, but there's also a weird feeling, and the best way I can describe it, is when you have a sticker in your foot, and you are so uncomfortable, but you know that you'll have sweet reliefe when it's out.I feel like I just want to rip this thing out!!! I have my suspicions of whats going on, I don't want to admit them, but I just need the opinion of some ladies in my shoes. My fiancee freaks out any time I have a hang nail so its hard to consult him when he wants to take out loans and sell our souls for a doctors appointment I may not need
