Description:

Dear Homestead Parents and Swimmers, We are so excited to be able to offer a swim team season. This is not a normal swim season, however, and it is not going to look like a normal swim season. Your Coaches, HOA, and Parent Reps have worked hard to secure time at the pool and have planned a fun season regardless of COVID-19. However, we will have procedures in place to maintain a safe environment for nearly 200 swimmers within the current state and local restrictions. Talk to your children about these procedures so they are prepared and know what to expect. With your help, we know it will be a fun and safe summer. First and foremost, if your swimmer or anyone in the household is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, DO NOT COME TO PRACTICE. Symptoms include: Fever or chills Cough Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing Fatigue Muscle or body aches Headache New loss of taste or smell Sore throatCongestion or runny nose Nausea or vomiting Diarrhea If your swimmer or anyone in the household tests positive for COVID-19 please notify Parent Reps immediately. Only one practice group will be allowed inside the pool area at a time. Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes early to practice or stay afterward. Times are very tight with practices and practices have also been shortened, so it’s important to arrive and leave right on time. If biking, please park bikes in the grass outside the West gate at the deep end of the pool so they can be retrieved after practice without mingling with swimmers who are in line checking in on the East side of the pool. If driving, please drop children off along Easter Avenue and have them walk through the grass to the East gate. Do not pull into the parking lot - we don’t want kids dodging cars pulling in and out as they cross the lot.Swimmers should arrive at the pool with bathing suits and sunscreen on, ready to jump into the water. Masks are recommended while waiting to swim. If your child needs to bring a bag, please remind them to place them far apart from another swimmer. If they can manage without a bag, do not bring one. Line up at the East gate closest to the tennis courts spaced 6 feet apart as marked on the sidewalk to be admitted after a temperature check. Any child with a fever over 100.4 will be sent home and have a parent contacted. (If your swimmer is riding a bike to practice, please have them walk the last distance or go rest in the shade for a moment before their temperature is checked.) The incoming practice group will wait under the blue pergola until the previous group has exited out of the West gate at the far end of the pool, then swimmers can place towels, spaced apart in the grassy area at the deep end, and enter the water. Swimmers will be in an assigned lane with a consistent group of swimmers and maintain distancing during practice to every extent possible. Parents may not come into the pool area at all during practice. If parents of young swimmers need to stay and watch practice, they can sit on the hill between the parking lot and pool area. Please remain 6 feet apart from non-family members to model appropriate pool behavior for children. Masks are suggested. Coaches, H2Os, Parent Reps and any other present adults will do their best to monitor social distancing within the pool area, but PLEASE talk to your swimmer about the importance of maintaining distance on the pool deck AND in the water. Coaches need to run practice and are also lifeguarding and they cannot be constantly measuring 6 feet between swimmers. It does not matter if your swimmer is playing closely with friends within the neighborhood, they must stay distanced at swim practice. We must remain within guidelines to run the team safely.Repeated violations may cause a swimmer to be sent home from practice.Bathrooms are available for emergencies only, not for changing.Coaches, H2Os, and Parent Reps will NOT be monitoring social distancing outside of the pool area. Unfortunately, the playground must be closed during all practices to discourage children gathering or swimmers arriving early or late. As with during normal pool hours, there can be no lost and found. Items left behind will be thrown away. Finally, please note that all of this is subject to change if the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment or Tri-County Health tightens or loosens public health orders. We know that all of this sounds like a lot, but as we streamline procedures and the kids figure out the process, it will seem much less daunting. We have wonderful coaches who are going to do a great job of making it fun! Together we are Homestead Strong! Homestead Hurricanes 2020 Parent RepresentativesHello Homestead Parents and Swimmers! The coaches and parent reps are excited to announce that we will be beginning our 2020 Hurricanes Swim Season this coming Monday, June 8th! For those I haven’t met, my name is Annie Williams, and I will be Head Coach this summer alongside our 6 other amazing age group coaches. I can speak for all of us in saying that we are thrilled to be having a season with you and your swimmers, even if it may look different. First, thank you to the parent reps and parent reps in training who have put in countless hours of time and work to ensure we were able to have a season — we appreciate you all so much! This is a long email, but please read through it all as it contains important information on what the season will look like. With the coronavirus outbreak and existing restrictions, this season will look different in the events we are allowed to hold and in day-to-day plans including practice schedules. Please know it is the coaches’ top priority to ensure all the swimmers have a fun season, despite it looking so different.Below are the age groups coaches for the 2020 season.6 under Boys and Girls: Ciara Langdon7-8 Boys: Lindsey Watson7-8 Girls: Kennedy Kerber9-10 Boys: Lucy Maloney9-10 Girls: Annie Williams11-12 Boys and Girls: Jake Russell13-18 Boys and Girls: Meghan AtwellCoach Meghan was originally unable to return but is now able to coach, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her back! Coach Ciara will only be coaching for the first two weeks of the season. Following this, Coach Lindsey and I will be coaching the 6 Under age group. You can find all the coaches' contact information under the ‘coaches’ tab of the Hurricane website.Given the CDC guidelines that we have to follow in order to conduct a season, practice schedules have to be adjusted with a few groups being split up and swimming at different times. While practices are shorter than usual and at different times for almost all age groups, this was the only way we could ensure every swimmer on the team could practice 4-5 days a week and keep the number of kids in the water as close to the 25 kids as possible. Coaches will assign a lane to each swimmer according to ability to keep things consistent throughout the season. Below is this year’s weekly practice schedule.Monday — Thursday7:00-7:45am: 11-12 Girls7:45-8:30am: 11-12 Boys, 13-14 Girls8:30-9:15am: 13-14 Boys, 15-18 Boys and Girls9:15-10:00am: 9-10 Girls, 1/2 of 9-10 Boys10:00-10:45am: 1/2 of 9-10 Boys, 7-8 Boys10:45-11:30am: 7-8 Girls11:30-12:00pm: 6 Under Boys and GirlsFriday7:00-7:45am: 11-12 Girls7:45-8:30am: 11-12 Boys, 13-14 Girls8:30-9:15am: 13-14 Boys, 15-18 Boys and Girls9:15-10:00am: 9-10 Girls10:00-10:45am: 9-10 Boys10:45-11:30am: 7-8 Girls11:30-12:00pm: 7-8 Boys**no practice for 6 Unders on Fridays** Because 6 Unders will not be practicing on Fridays, every 6 Under will be given a lesson voucher, good for one free lesson with any coach! Due to the need to reduce the number of people at the pool, we will be unable to have normal intraclub meets. However, Fridays of every week (Thursdays for 6 Unders) will be designated as race days! At these practices, kids will be able to swim in heats similar to a meet setting and get times for all their age group events. Coaches will announce in their weekly emails which events the kids will be swimming that Friday.Saturdays will be designated as private lesson days! Lessons will be held at the North Pool from 7:00am-11:30am. These can be scheduled individually with any age group coach and will be $25 for a 30 minute lesson. As of now, we are designating this time in order to not take away limited space from Homestead residents wanting to swim in the afternoons following practices. This time at the North Pool will ensure that we don’t interfere with the neighborhood pool reservation system. We are working on other times to give lessons and will update you more on that as the season progresses.New swimmer tryouts will be held the first day of practice (Monday, June 8th) at the start of your child’s age group practice. While we always love having new swimmers on the team, we will be firmly enforcing our existing tryout requirements. All new swimmers must be at least 5 years old and be able to complete one length of the pool without stopping. Coaches will no longer be able to have close contact with swimmers which could include high fives, close one-on-one conversations, getting in the pool with them, etc. Because of this, we need to make sure that all of the kids swimming this year are confident in their swimming abilities.Upon entering the pool, kids will have their temperatures checked. Kids will be entering the pool through the main gate by the tennis courts, and coaches will release them through the gate by the deep end of the pool one-by-one. For all the kids biking to practice, please have them park their bikes on the fence by the deep end of the pool. This will ensure that they can safely grab them after being released without being tangled up with the next group trying to enter the pool. There will be strict guidelines to ensure safety during practices. The parent reps will email out more information regarding procedures this weekend. In addition to weekly practice, there will be an 11-12s stoke clinic on Tuesday nights and a 13-18s stroke clinic on Wednesday nights, both from 7:00pm-8:00pm. This is a great opportunity for the older kids to get more time in the water and receive further technical help from the coaches. Here is a recap of the weekly schedule.Monday7:00am-12:00pm: Age Group PracticesTuesday7:00am-12:00pm: Age Group Practices7:00pm-8:00pm: 11-12s Stroke ClinicWednesday 7:00am-12:00pm: Age Group Practices 7:00-8:00pm: 13-18 Stroke ClinicThursday7:00am-12:00pm: Age Group Practices (race day for 6 Unders)Friday7:00am-12:00pm: Age Group Practices (race day, no practice for 6 Unders)Saturday7:00am-11:30am: Lessons (scheduled with coaches) This schedule will repeat until the end of the season on July 11th. We are hoping to have the opportunity to end the season with a modified Saturday intraclub meet and banquet. We will update you further in the season if we see that as a possibility. Please be on the lookout for an email from your child’s age group coach, which will be sent out by this Sunday. They will include a brief introduction to the season as well as any important information specific to their age groups. Again, we can’t thank you enough for your continuous support, patience, and understanding! This season wouldn’t be possible without our amazing community of parents and swimmers. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me, the parent reps, or the other age group coaches. We can’t wait to see you all at the pool soon!Go Hurricanes!Best,Annie WilliamsHead Coach(720) 431-3640anniemacwilliams@comcast.netHi Hurricanes! The coaches and parent reps are excited to announce we are on for the season and are planning to start practices on this coming Monday, June 8th! We will still be holding practices Monday-Friday from 7:00am-12:00pm. The practice schedule will be modified to keep the number of kids in the pool to 25 kids at a time. Fridays will be designated as racing practices so everyone will still have an opportunity to race and get times for their age group events. Tuesday and Wednesday nights will be stroke clinics from 7:00pm-8:00pm, with 11-12s going on Tuesdays and 13-18s going on Wednesdays. Saturdays will be designated as lesson days, and lessons can be scheduled individually with any coach. We will be running everything encouraging social distancing and trying our best to keep everyone as safe as possible. Tomorrow night I will be sending an email with the practice schedule and more details on what our modified season will look like.Thank you all so so much for your patience and support! The coaches and parent reps are thrilled to be able to see you and your kids at the pool soon. Go Hurricanes! Coach AnnieDear Hurricanes,Despite our hope that the governor would announce a June 1stpool opening this week, we are still waiting for definitive information. However,we need to proceed with swim team registration this week for two reasons. First, the RMSL insurance policy updates June1st and we need a roster of swimmers by that date to be covered by the league ifwe are to be able to swim if and when the pools open. Second, planning for practices that meetguidelines for safe social distancing depends on having firm numbers ofswimmers in each age group. If the pools are able to open before June 15th for smallgroups, we will get the kids swimming! If pools open any later than that, we feel we would have no choice butto cancel the season entirely. We arehoping for daily practices at the North Pool at the usual times, but we mayneed to shorten practices or add times/locations such as evening practice orSouth Pool practices depending on numbers.Intraclub meets are TBD depending on guidelines, but if weare able to proceed with those meets, we would tentatively schedule on June20th, June 27th, and July 11th, wrapping up the season at the same time asoriginally planned. The days would bebroken down by age group, so not all swimmers will be at the pool at the sametime. There will not be a snack bar atmeets and swimmers will sit with their families, most likely outside of theimmediate pool area. All social events, including the pasta pep rally, pancakebreakfast, and team banquet will be cancelled, though if restrictions continueto lift, we may be able to reevaluate in July. There will be no volunteer shift requirement atregistration. There will be a $100 registration fee, which will solely fundcoach salaries at as close to the level we promised them as possible. Fees will be refunded to families immediatelyif the season is cancelled.Coaches will still try out new swimmers. We recognize thatmany new swimmers missed out on months of swim lessons to prepare, but newswimmers absolutely must be able to confidently swim the length of the poolwithout stopping for the safety of your child. For this year only, we WILL NOT be allowing any swimmers under 5-years-old.The younger kids are a real concern with social distancing requirements, so weask that you strongly consider whether your child can stay appropriatelydistanced, regardless of their age. Despite all of these restrictions and cancellations, we canoffer sun, water, fun, exercise, and some resemblance of a normal summer forour Hurricanes swimmers! Without volunteer shifts, there is no time issue withregistration, so you can click the "registration" button on this home page to sign up now. Registration closes Sunday, May 31th at 5 pm.Keep watching the website and Facebook page for updates andwe’ll send out updates as soon as we know anything!Thank you,Homestead Hurricanes 2020 Parent RepresentativesRegistration for the 2020 season is currently TBD. For other events, go to the "Calendar" tab to find the 2020 schedule.IF YOU HAVE A NEW SWIMMER: Try-outs are being held from 3:30-5pm, May 11th and May 12th, at the North Pool. The swimmer will need to pass the try-outs in order to be on the team. We recommend you register them ahead of time in order to pick volunteer shifts that work for your family. If they do not pass try-outs, your registration fee will be refunded immediately. The swimmer must be able to swim across the length of the pool UNASSISTED and WITHOUT STOPPING or RESTING. There can be no touching the bottom of the pool. As we gear up for the 2020 season we wanted to introduce our new coaching staff!Head Coach, 9-10 Girls Coach and 13-18s Co-Coach: Annie WilliamsAssistant Head Coach, 7-8 Boys and 13-18s Co-Coach: Lindsey Watson11-12 Boys and Girls Coach: Jake Russell9-10 Boys Coach: Lucy Maloney7-8 Girls Coach: Kennedy Kerber6 and Under Boys and Girls: Ciara LangdonSwim Suits: The 2020 season is a new swim suit year and will be available at a later date through MI Sports.
