Copyright law plays a big part in how you can use, distribute and re-use materials your scholarly work. See Students for more information. Rina Elster Pantalony, Director of Copyright Advisory Services at Columbia University Libraries, will lead this 90-minuteworkshop on how to avoid potential last-minute, dissertation-relatedcopyright issues. She will recommend resources and answer questions from students.This workshop is open to PhD candidates in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences only. For more information and to register for the February 28, 2020 workshop, CLICK HERE Copyright Advisory Services For Faculty and Students Office Hours Office Hours for the Columbia Community will continue virtually on Tuesdays from 10am to noon. Fair Use Emergency Remote Teaching Research On March 13th, Library Copyright Specialists issued a Public Statement about fair use and emergency remote teaching and research. The statement has now been endorsed broadly by educators and scholars throughout the United States. In response, in part to the demands of COVID-19, Columbia's Copyright Advisory Services and LYRASIS have joined forces to create a pilot program of 5 copyright education courses for professionals working in libraries, archives and museums.Detailed business planning is also underway to determine the business and service models necessary to launch a virtual copyright education center.Courses are in now in production and will be available in early 2021 for Columbia affiliates and on the LYRASIS Learning platform. Business planning will be completed by June 2021.For more detailed information see the joint Press Release. Columbia University Library's Copyright Advisory Services together with partners Ithaka S+R and LYRASIS just released their Issues Brief on the viability of a virtual copyright education center for professionals working in libraries, archives and museums.The Issues Brief, entitled Copyright Education in Libraries, Archives and Museums: A 21st Century Approach summarizes collaborative discussions held during a roundtable meeting at Columbia University Libraries in July 2019.The roundtable and the preparation and publication of the Issues Brief was generously supported by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.Copyright Advisory Services is excited to announce the release of a feasibility study on the creation of a virtual education center about copyright. The study, funded by a LYRASIS Catalyst Grant, examines the potential and requirements for the development of a virtual education space about copyright for librarians, archivists and museum professionals.
