Game summary for September 15, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Bathory Battleblade (Dwarf played by Preston Harmon), Garadal Davster (Halfling played by Parker Harmon), Katarina Magdanov (Magic-User played by Casey Scruggs), Lodi Shatterhelm (Dwarf-Cleric played by Chris Harmon), and Riccon Guerrier (Human Fighter played by Peyton Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons. This was a Roll20 session.The group decided they must have missed the goblin lair near the lake, so they went back that direction and came across some more refugees from Segenyev. They learned some of their kin were hauled off by Iron Ring slavers and dragged to the north. They also indicated the slavers seemed to be looking for something but seemed frustrated and unable to locate it.The team headed to the source of the river thinking maybe the lair was there but realized, when they found their own tracks, they had already been there a few days prior. Frustrated, they decided to randomly head off in a direction. Heading north, they came across a ridge dotted with three mounds. They watched the mounds overnight with no sign of life or movement.The group approached the mounds and found them surrounded by circles of desolation approximately 300 yards across. Entering one of the circles, everything went black and the pillars around the doors glowed with sickly green flame. The team opened the doorway and entered a downward slopping tomb with painted frescos depicting priests wearing jackal masks. At the bottom of the ramp stood another door, and beyond it was a thick crystal sarcophagus. They could see a body inside clutching a resplendent mace. They discussed and decided they were too scared to open it and left.They approached the second mound, and when they entered the desolation zone, the world shifted once again. Hundreds of slaughtered men, orcs, and goblins lay strewn about a field of battle, and the mound door was hanging open. They figured the dead had fallen 1 to 2 weeks prior, and the stench was overpowering. They decided anything that could kill this many was too dangerous for them to mess with. They looted the corpses instead of going into the mound. They found a huge number of coins and divided them evenly among the party, with Lodi carrying a double share in honor of fallen JoJo.The group left the desolation field and were horrified to find the gold evaporating but the weight, like a curse, still present!Game summary for September 1, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. While the party rescued a cocooned woman, Katarina, the ooze approached. In moments JoJo was slaughtered by the ooze. The team kept fighting and discovered their weapons had no effect. One of them decided to hit the ooze with a torch and learned burning it had an effect. The group quickly drew forth torches and tried to surround the jelly. It struck again with a pseudopod and killed Timotei! Some of the team backed off to flee, but the rest kept hitting the ooze with fire. Eventually, Garadal killed it!Lodi pressed on into the darkness and was attacked by the blue-eyed shroud spider. It paralyzed him with a web squirt and skittered toward the party. They retaliated with arrows and sling stones in a flurry of violence! The spider bit some of the team but was unable to defeat them. It soon lay dead at their feet. Searching the lair, they found five more cocoons! Within were two orcs and the missing dwarf and gnome miners! They released the orcs and went to reunite the miners.The miners were so grateful they paid the gold promised and also gifted the team with an extremely valuable necklace they had discovered!Game summary for August 18, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons. This was a Roll20 session.The team collected the bejeweled mirror frame and returned to the elves on the lake shore to collect their reward. They then stripped all the gems from the frame and headed north toward the mine they’d heard about.Outside the mine they met a gnome named Vissaryon and his eight dwarven miners. They learned the dwarves had broken into an older mine complex and a natural cave complex. Within they encountered some orcs. Then, the orcs stopped troubling them after they accidentally released some kind of black monstrosity from deeper in the caverns. Vissaryon suspected it is a type of spider, and they have offered a reward if the party will kill it and even more if they will rescue any missing gnomes and dwarves.The team set off into the darkness and roamed around a bit. They saw the spider’s glowing blue eyes in the darkness but were unable to catch up. They came across a cocooned orc and learned the orcs worship the spider but it is now free due to the miners accidentally busting it free from its lair. The orc, of the Nyy-akk tribe, agreed to leave the party alone if they left it alone. The group went off in search of the spider in its lair. They found a ledge leading to another tunnel they had previously overlooked. Stellara led the way up into the chamber and was immediately killed by something!Game summary for August 11, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. The team took numerous hits, but the skeletons proved fairly fragile and several went down with each moment of battle. Soon only a heaping pile of bones remained.After nursing their wounds, JoJo took a torch from Timotei and descended a ladder where he found the dead body of Darados! The elf’s body was burned and broken. Soon the rest of the group came down as well. The group pressed further into the darkness and triggered some poison dart traps. Although several were hit by darts, none were poisoned.In another room, the group found a huge jet-black area with glossy pillars and fanged statues. Statues that came to life! The gargoyles attacked and cut gaping wounds into the hides of the team. From the darkness a magic missile burst forth and slammed into one of the creatures. The team rallied and laid into the monsters joined by a mysterious elven woman. After the monstrosities were destroyed, they talked to her for a bit and explored the room. The torches illuminated an enormous black glass mirror in an ornate frame. Upon seeing it, the party charged to destroy it…Game summary for August 4, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. This was a Roll20 session.The team began to explore the misty island and soon found some old stone structure or temple surrounded by stone statues, one of which was smashed. In its place was a bronze and silver statue matching the description the elves had given them. Lodi went up to investigate and look for any unusual stone features. The team was then attacked by half-a-dozen invisible pixies! The fighting was fast and furious, but Timotei and Riccon seemed uncannily accurate against the unseen foes. While the combat raged, Darados went into the building to explore and disappeared down a ladder into the darkness.After the pixies were defeated, the team followed Darados down into the darkness. They found dusty footprints leading off down a dark tunnel. Following, the group stumbled into a massive number of animated skeletons! The undead surged forward and began clubbing the team with bones. They tried to fall back, but there were so many undead that they clogged the hallway trapping several of the team among them!Game summary for July 28, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. This was a Roll20 session.After making camp, nursing their wounds, and welcoming a dwarf-cleric named Lodi Shatterhelm to their group, the team returned to the goblin lair. Their intent was to discuss negotiations for information about Stephan. They talked to the goblins who seemed quite scared of the team, and rightly so. Hours earlier, they had slain a dozen of the tribe as well as their leader. Eventually, the got some information from the goblins that they heard the wolves lair far to the north across the hills near the water.The team decided to follow the clay tablet map to the lake and see if the lair was nearby. When they arrived, they came across a number of elves encamped on the banks. The party watched them for hours before approaching. The leader of the elves, Goriidel, told them they had a statue of some value stolen from them earlier in the week by malicious pixies. The elves had gotten the statue as payment for some supplies they took to a group of gnomish and dwarven miners two weeks before. The pixies had retreated to the island in the middle of the lake. The elves are strictly forbidden from going to the island, so they hired the party to go get the statue for the sum of 600 gp in gems and information about the gnomes and dwarves who were tangling with some orcs. They reasoned if the goblins in the area are stirred up, the orcs may be stirred by the same thing and there could be information there.The party agreed and began to row out across the lake to the mysterious mist-shrouded island!Game summary for July 21, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Darados (Elf played by Casey Scruggs), Garadal Davster (Halfling played by Parker Harmon), Riccon Guerrier (Human Fighter played by Peyton Harmon), Timotei Kiraly (Human Fighter played by Preston Harmon), and Vespasian Thanou (Human Thief played by Chris Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons. This was a Roll20 session.The team fished Vespasian out of the bottom of the pit and devised a plan to get everyone across. After a few minutes, they were able to get everyone over. They crept along for awhile until Darados’ danger sense warned him of imminent problems. He scouted ahead and found a pack of goblins!The goblins swarmed forward, and Vespasian ended up holding the gap. A large goblin in the back kept reaching into a sack and pulling forth a rock python! He would swing the snake around and hurl it at members of the party! The team put up a valiant fight and killed several goblins, but Vespasian ended up being slain in the constricting coils of a serpent while the rest of the team fell back. They kept firing arrows on the retreat killing more and more goblins. Finally, the leader was cut down, and the rest broke morale and fled. Badly injured and with one of their own dead, the party retreated to safety to make camp and nurse their wounds.Game summary for July 14, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Darados (Elf played by Casey Scruggs), Garadal Davster (Halfling played by Parker Harmon), Joseph Joestar (Human Thief played by Andrew Renfrow), Riccon Guerrier (Human Fighter played by Peyton Harmon), Timotei Kiraly (Human Fighter played by Preston Harmon), and Vespasian Thanou (Human Thief played by Chris Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons. This was a Roll20 session.The team sprang to action and started trying to scale the barricade. Several made it to the top while Vespasian hurled a torch over the wall. The goblins extinguished the torch, which was the only one lit, plunging the cave into darkness. Only Darados could see as the goblins hurled daggers at the team, injuring several. The party lit several more torches and ignited the barricade! Darados grabbed one of the goblins and pulled him into a grapple. For his trouble, he got cut several times and hit with a hammer while the rest of the team moved back off the barricade. Darados body slammed the goblin down to the ground where his teammates accidentally set it on fire while he was still holding on to it. Burned, hammered, and stabbed, Darados limped to the back where Kalana cast cure light wounds upon him.The group killed one goblin but was forced to retreat from the billowing smoke filling the cave. They retreated out the front entrance and looked about to see if they could find smoke coming from any other entrances. They noticed some and found another entrance. The party crept in, and Timotei plunged into a pit! The team lowered a rope and extracted him for Kalana to heal. Vespasian tried to use acrobatics to jump the pit and plunged to the bottom as well.Game summary for July 7, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Darados (Elf played by Casey Scruggs), Garadal Davster (Halfling played by Parker Harmon), Riccon Guerrier (Human Fighter played by Peyton Harmon), Timotei Kiraly (Human Fighter played by Preston Harmon), and Vespasian Thanou (Human Thief played by Chris Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons. This was a Roll20 session.The team left the goblin lair and decided to head toward the mine on the map they found. Along the way, they saw the black stallion in the woods once again. After a short pursuit, it disappeared right before Darados’ eyes. They then headed back on the trail.Before long, they came across a trapper named Gregory. They talked for a while, and he told them where he thought the Viper clan goblins might have a lair. The group searched along the creek and found the cave and a raft on the far side. They tried throwing a rope across to snag the raft but had nothing with which to grapple it. Next, they started trying to swim across and half the party nearly drowned. Eventually, Darados made it across, secured a rope, and brought the raft across. The team then crossed over to the cave and chopped down the door.Inside, they explored for a bit and found a barracks type room with a large red tapestry depicting a black chalice. Further into the caves, they found a door marked with a snake sigil. Beyond it were a few goblin skeletons and a patch of strange fungus surrounded by a cloud of glowing blue spores. The team backed away slowly.Further down the hallway they found a barricaded hallway. Suddenly, a goblin popped up and hurled a dagger at them! It missed, and the goblin disappeared behind the barrier and began arguing with someone.Game summary for June 30, 2020, Classic Quest campaign, Dungeons Dragons BECMI / RC Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Joseph Joestar (Human Thief played by Andrew Renfrow), Riccon Guerrier (Human Fighter played by Peyton Harmon), and Vespasian Thanou (Human Thief played by Chris Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons. This was a Roll20 session.Joined by Vespasian and patched up by Kalana, the group delved back into the lair and found the remaining shrews. A quick battle ensued, and the vermin were slain. With them dead, the group was free to enter the guarded chamber. Within, they found a tapestry of a red dragon, some terracotta jars, a wooden chest, and a pillow with a large red gem resting in the middle. They tried to open the chest and caused the red jewel to explode into piercing shards that wounded the entire team. After patching up, they unlocked the chest and took the contents.They then went and tried removing some of the bricks in the far room. They found a passageway beyond and threw in a torch. The back of the few bricks they removed were marred from some kind of chopping tool or blade. They then went around and removed the barricade and knocked down the door to the other room. This room connected to the bricked up tunnel. Exploring, they found a long dead dwarf lying in a heap with a battered and dulled axe. Beside him lay a goblin skull. Vespasian searched the body and found a fluid-ruined letter that talked about a mine to the north and included a crude map.
