Chiral phenylglycinol is a very important chemical in the pharmaceutical manufacturing. The present research considered a six-step artificial cascade biocatalysis system for the conversion of bio-based l-phenylalanine into chiral phenylglycinol using a microbial consortium including two engineered recombinant E. coli cells, one co-expressed six different enzymes for efficient conversion of l-phenylalanine into 2-hydroxyacetophenone, while another E. coli cell expressed an (R)-蠅-transaminase or co-expressed the (S)-蠅-transaminase, alanine dehydrogenase and glucose dehydrogenase for the conversion of 2-hydroxyacetophenone into (S)- or (R)-phenylglycinol, respectively. Combining the two engineered E. coli cells, l-phenylalanine could be easily converted into (R)-phenylglycinol and (S)-phenylglycinol with up to 99% conversion and 鈥?/strong>99% ee without additional cofactor (NADH/NAD+).

Bioresources and Bioprocessing (BIOB) plans to publish a Special Issue with the subject of 鈥?strong>Bioenergy锛?/strong>A Sustainable Solution for Carbon Neutrality鈥? This special issue is in liaison with the 12th International Bioenergy Symposium (WBS2021, http://wbs2021.csp.escience.cn), which will be held in Nanning, China during 19鈥?1 November 2021. All the participants of this exciting symposium are cordially invited to submit their original research articles including rapid communications or mini-reviews to this open-access but free-of-charge journal which is published by the Springer Nature group and sponsored by the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering (China). The Impact Factor of this China-based and SCI-indexed biotechnology journal is rapidly increasing, with an Impact Factor of 4.578 as of 2020.
Both reviews and research articles are welcome. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Status and prospect of biofuels Policy and market of biofuels Fuel ethanol technology (1st and 2nd generation) Systems biology and metabolic engineering for biofuels and biomass-based chemicals Metabolic modeling and simulation for biofuels and biomass based chemicals Biodiesel technology Pretreatment and bioconversion of biomass Biobased polymers and materials Biorefining technology LCA of biofuelsAll papers and supplementary information (if any) should be submitted online (http://www.bioresourcesbioprocessing.com/) and prepared according to the BIOB guidelines (http://bioresourcesbioprocessing.springeropen.com/submission-guidelines). Authors should indicate that the paper is submitted for the special issue in their cover letter and is not published or being considered to publish elsewhere. All submissions will be subject to peer review before possible acceptance for publication in BIOB which is now free of charge and highly accessed/cited by readers from all over the world.
The date open for submission to the WBS2021 Special Issue: From Now On;
Until the deadline: December 15, 2021.
