Manchester Jewish Museum

Due to open on 2nd July! For us, this project is about expressing the diversity of Jewish Communities - religious, cultural and political; finding the threads of experience that tie us together with other communities that share often similar stories but from very different perspectives. Dialogue across difference matters to us - now more than ever. We will be sharing more images very soon…

Manchester Jewish Museum

The Grade II* Listed synagogue building was built by Sephardi Jews - from Spain and North Africa - who chose to reference these geographical origins rather than overtly Jewish motifs, so the old building was covered in typical Moorish geometry. The new facade interprets these patterns, explores their composition and the intertwined history of communities for which they would have held meaning. The idea that ‘we have more in common than that which divides us’ is more relevant now than ever.

St Peter's in the Forest Church

Set within Epping Forest, the Grade II Listed St Peter’s Church is unusually beautiful. It was bombed during WWII giving rise to an asymmetrical interior. To fulfil the brief to renovate the building and create new community spaces, our approach was to divide the church along the line of what was an original square chapel on the site - thus creating a more intimate worship space, with new community spaces created on the other side of the inserted timber ‘rood screen’. This screen creates an acoustic division that incorporates the new organ ‘pipes’ as well as access to the bell tower. (photo by Etienne Clement)

St Peter's in the Forest Church

Our renovation and remodelling of St Peter’s Church completed in Spring 2021. We stripped back accumulated layers of additions to reveal the original facade. Inside we divided the volume of the church to create a more intimate atmosphere for worship in addition to community spaces.
