Matthew van der Merwe
I work as research assistant to Nick Bostrom, at the Future of Humanity Institute in Oxford. I also write Future Matters, a newsletter about longtermism, with Pablo Stafforini.
Previously, I worked closely with Toby Ord on his book The Precipice: Existential Risk and the Future of Humanity. From 2018–2021 I wrote about AI policy for Jack Clark’s weekly newsletter, Import AI. Before all this, I was an equities analyst, researching cement companies. I have a BA in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge. I’m a member of Giving What We Can.
