We were excited to host our Board of Directors and guests from Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Virginia Farm Bureau Federation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development, on our annual tour over the past two days. Having along Commissioner Joe Guthrie, President Wayne Pryor and State Director Perry Hickman was a privilege! Our cooperators Sweethaven Lavender of Williamsburg, Coastal Cattle, Cullipher Farm, and SummerWind Vineyard each showcased their unique operations and products to the tour group. What is Virginia FAIRS?Virginia FAIRS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that offers technical assistance for people transitioning into or involved in value-added agriculture. FAIRS stands for the Foundation for Agriculture, Innovation and Rural Sustainability. Our mission is to assist rural Virginians in developing and advancing their agricultural, economic, and social interests to enhance their quality of life.
Does FAIRS offer grants?While FAIRS does not offer grants, we do provide grant application assistance. There are many different federal, state, local and industry grant programs, and we strive to help connect you with the right program for your project. I’m new to farming, can you help me?While FAIRS does not provide general farm advice, we do offer business and strategic planning services. If you have started a farm and are ready to increase production or need help starting a new enterprise, we encourage you to see our resources page.
