About Waterway Recovery Group

We are the volunteers who support waterway restoration across England and Wales.  We run week-long working holidays known as canal camps as well as weekend visits to restoration projects (and sometimes navigable waterways) through our regional groups.

Bringing waterways back to life

Volunteers have the opportunity to learn new skills whilst getting involved in worthwhile projects such as building new bridges, restoring lock chambers, bank protection and  vegetation clearance.  Our ‘canal camp’ working holidays attract a wide range of people: from young volunteers taking part in the Duke of Edinburghs Award Scheme; to waterway enthusiasts who want to help restore and preserve the waterway network; to people who have skills such as engineering or brick-laying and want to do something worthwhile and satisfying with their leisure time.
