The Sphinx Organization is the Detroit-based national organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts. Dear Friends,This year has been a season of change, and here at Sphinx, we understand the importance of serving as a viable resource for our community during a time of unprecedented challenge and profound opportunity. As the Team worked to pivot and reimagine our programming, we could not have imagined the depth of the connections, collaborations, and innovation we would experience. Our Sphinx Performance Academy, Sphinx LEAD, and National Alliance for Audition Support summer intensive went completely virtual for the first time. The season brought forward multiple new commissions, an orchestral fellowship placement, several promotions, and two CEO hires in our Sphinx LEAD family. The resilience and creativity of our programmatic staff and teaching artists have been nothing short of heroic, while the impact upon our artists and the field, both memorable and lasting. During this time of year, we are normally preparing for our annual gala at one of the most iconic stages in the world, Carnegie Hall. While we will not be able to celebrate this year with our awesome community in New York City, we’re elated to host our inaugural virtual gala “Lift Ev’ry Voice” on October 15. We invite you to keep an eye out for updates and help us spread the word on this historic performance, featuring a stellar line up of our alumni artists! 2020 has demonstrated more than ever the importance of Sphinx s mission and work at the intersection of social justice and the arts. As the pandemic has affected Black and brown communities in a dramatically disproportionate fashion, we strive to uplift the voices of our artists and their stories. As we look ahead, we will keep our community updated on SphinxConnect, Sphinx Competition, and other programs, as we prioritize the safety and health of our constituents.With you, our Sphinx family, we share all these victories.
