Welcome Palmetto Senior High School Alumni. We welcome you to the ‘official’ Miami Palmetto Senior High School Alumni Association website. The school is located at 7460 SW 118 Street in Pinecrest, Florida 33156. We appreciate your interest and support. A special thank you to the graduating classes of 1961 and 1970 for sponsoring and underwriting costs associated with website development. Alan Fetterman Scholarship Fund Alan Fetterman was a music director for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 30 years and served at Palmetto in the 1970s and 1980s. As director of Palmetto’s bands bands (Concert, stage, jazz and marching) he elevated them to excellence. His bands performed nationally and internationally, traveling to the Washington DC Cherry Blossom Festival, as well as to Mexico, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Hawaii. They were regularly featured in the King Orange Parade. In fact, the marching band took part in the 1983 Orange Bowl halftime show when the University of Miami won its very first national championship. He was honored by Miami-Dade County on numerous occasions and eventually became Director of Music Education for Miami-Dade County. In addition, Fetterman instilled a strong work ethic in his students. His motto, Early is on time, and on time is late has stayed with these students and influenced them in their adult careers. While known as a tough task master, he was beloved by students. Many have echoed the sentiment of former student who wrote to the Alumni Association, saying, “Mr. Fetterman was the most influential male role model in my life.” Another former student said, “He inspired us all to be our best in every way possible. We were all his ‘children’ and he made sure we excelled in every way.” Donations in his memory will fund a scholarship for a Palmetto High School student who will study music or the arts. Read full obituary Sam was a teacher and golf coach at Miami Palmetto Senior High School for over 30 years. In 1967, he was named Florida High School Coach of the Year, and was nominated for National Golf Coach of the Year for District 4 (Southeastern US) in 1976. Sam was also named “Dade County Coach of The Year” five times by The Miami News. Sam greatly enjoyed the game of golf, and hit a rare Hole in One ace during a tournament in 1973. Read details to nominate Scholarships for Graduating Seniors This is the fourth year that the Palmetto High Alumni Association has been able to provide four scholarships of $1,500.00 each to Palmetto High Seniors, thanks to the generosity of several alumni donors. This year we once again held a Donors Fund Reception to raise the funds. And this year, In addition we received an unsolicited $1,000 donation from a charitable fund, which was made in honor of Palmetto college advisor Harry Nerenberg, from an Alumna living in New York. The four scholarships will be given out at the Palmetto Senior High Senior Awards Ceremony in May.
