Description:

The North Norfolk Circuit stretches along the beautiful North Norfolk coast from Weybourne to Mundesley; out as far as Hickling on the Broads, and inland, through beautiful countryside as far as Reepham.New National Restrictions from 5 NovemberOur Circuit Churches will closed for Worship during NovemberHowever the leadership team are expanding theZoom, Postal, Online and Telephone alternatives"...Till we meet, till we meetGod Be with you till we meet again...."Donald Hughes ((1911-1967)https://prisonsweek.org/homehas resources to join the support for thesepeople in need, with prayers and reflections for each day from the 11thto the 17th October 2020.The Prophet Joel Joel is asmall book of the Old Testament. Those of us who read it, rarely digest it. Itis set in a time when natural disaster hits Judah, and people are unable topublicly worship God in the familiar way. Joel 1:1 2:17 is a lamentation andcall to repentance; 2:18 3:21 is a promise of salvation. A plague of locustshas destroyed the crops. There is no wine for the drink offering in the templeor grain for the grain offering. Joel identifies three groups of people who areparticularly affected and lament: the priest, the farmer and the drunkard.Through Joel God calls the people to change not through outward signs but intheir hearts. There is a promise of both positive and negative things on theother side, but God is with them. As I write Iam aware that if I wrote this a week earlier my perspectives and point of viewwould be different. The old certainties and routines have disappeared. Peopleare panicking and clearing supermarket shelves; churches are closed; travel isrestricted. Like the people in Joel we lament for what we have lost. In Joel weare called to repent. To repent is to change. Repent meant to completely turnaround. Many have lived in the expectation of human invincibility andachievement as individuals rather than as a collective, as a society. We asindividuals need to change in the current situation and in the society thatemerges from it. The new reality that Joel s society emerged into had adetermination and confidence. They faced new problems but took them on. Theforeign invaders who attacked from every side could be opposed and defeated. Infaith there is the realisation of God with them. As wejourney through what looks likely to be a long period of disruption, we will nodoubt lament the things we enjoy about our church. We can no longer gather as acommunity and share with friends in worship and over coffee. The changes thathave been forced on us lead to us seeking an inward change and new ways ofbeing church. In this challenge we may focus on God with us and the ways we relateto him. We may notbe able to gather as God s people, but we can still talk on the telephone oruse other methods to communicate. Over the next month we will be worshipping onzoom on Sunday at 10.30; a service on our website; telephone service on Sundayat 4.30 pm; and printed service.God bless,ColinFrom thediary pageSunday 8th November 2020 Remembrance Day10.30 am Zoom Worship led by the Rev Colin TelferMeeting ID: 864 1334 2183Passcode: 179303Telephone access: 0203 901 7895/ 0131 460 1196/0203 051 2874/ 0203 481 5237/ 0203 481 5240Please note, the servicewill follow the same format as the distance worship sheet so please have thisto hand. Julian M.PursehouseNovember 2020Sisters and Brothers in Christ,I am writing this letter at theclose of All Saints Day; a day when we remember that the Church is not simplythe congregation of the faithful gathered in the present moment but the alsothe great congregation of the faithful who have gone before us and rest in theeternity of God. The writer of Hebrews refers to the great cloud of witnesses (chapter 12) that surrounds us andbecomes a source of encouragement and intercession for the church on earth, aswe seek to be faithful disciples in the here and now. It is a reminder to usall that there are ordinary saints who have gone before us in time and space, wrestledwith the slings and arrows of outrageousfortune and yet remained steadfast in their faith and devotion, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfectorof our faith. The writing of this letter alsocoincides with the recent announcement of a second national lockdown that willbegin at midnight on Thursday 5th. November and once again we haveto embrace the harsh reality of the ceasing of public worship; at least for amonth. I know this will come as a blow to many folk across the District andmany of you will be left feeling frustrated, bewildered and bereft. I am wellaware, because of my own travels across the District, just how hard localstewards have worked to complete risk assessments and make our buildings COVIDsecure. I thank you for this work and assure you that it is not wasted everything is in place for when we might be permitted to return to gatheredpublic worship! During the first lockdown many churches and circuits foundinnovative ways in which to migrate our activity to other platforms and media again this creativity is not wasted but once more will come into its own as weseek to remain connected, cared for and worshipful as God s people.I mentioned in my last letter howhelpful I have found the voice of poetry during this national crisis it hasoften been a source of hope, inspiration and consolation. So again, I leave youthis month with a poem by Susan Coolidge, entitled New Every Morning. In thispoem there is a sober recognition that sometimes we encounter difficult thingsand life can be hard and it may continue to be so. However, alongside thisrealisation is the glad refrain ofthe dawning of a new day with all the possibilities that it may behold and anunderstated optimism of grasping the gift of that new horizon. I wonder whetherone of the challenges of being one of the saints of God is to navigate thisvery tension and to do so with faith, hope and love? Here is the poem in full enjoy!Every day is a fresh beginning;Listen, my soul, to the glad refrain,And, spite of old sorrow and older sinning,And puzzles forecasted and possible pain,Take heart with the day, and begin again. Peace and Blessing, JulianINVITATION to Join Telephone Worship click to open the invitation Prayer is important to us in every situation, in celebration and in sorrow.
