The concept of having goats on a roof dates back to the 1970s, when Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant in Door County, Wisconsin was known for its roof-munching inhabitants. Here at Goats on the Roof in Pigeon Forge, we’ve stayed faithful to those original alpine roots by building a mountain coaster that’s become one of our most popular attractions – after the goats, of course.

Measuring nearly a mile in length and reaching top speeds of nearly 30 miles per hour, The Coaster at Goats on the Roof offers thrills for all ages, and because you the passenger are in control of the brake, you can make the experience as tame or as hair-raising as you’re comfortable with.

Each cart is designed to carry one or two passengers, and once your sled is transported to the top of the mountain, gravity takes over for the winding, twisting 4,875-foot journey to the bottom. Along the way, you’ll enjoy gorgeous mountain views and one of the smoothest but wildest seven-minute rides in town.

Experience The Ride

The Coaster at Goats on the Roof is an exciting journey through the hills of Tennessee at speeds just under 30mph and with a view that can’t be seen anywhere else in town. Whether you enjoy riding alone or pairing up – it doesn’t matter since the carts are designed to comfortably carry one or two people. Each cart is equipped with hand brakes so you can go slow if you are a little nervous, or let it rip if you are a speed demon. This hands-on ride is fun for the whole family, from children to grandparents. All are guaranteed to have a fantastic and memorable time!

The Coaster at Goats on the Roof tries to accommodate anyone and everyone. Our flexible hours make it so the early birds can come ride in the morning while the night owls can zip through the hills late into the night.Raining? Snowing? No problem. We actually think the ride is more exciting to ride during these conditions. If it starts to thunder or the weather gets too bad, we might close until it passes. If you are unsure if we are open or not, don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Safety First At The Coaster

To enjoy your experience of a thrilling alpine ride, you need to be sure of your safety. We offer much more than an awesome ride. A ride on The Goat Coaster is the experience you will undoubtedly enjoy. There are no age and gender boundaries here as everyone can have fun on this ride. There are, however, some safety requirements that need to be observed in order to ensure that your joyful experience doesn’t turn sour because of an injury. Our mountain coaster is proud of its unique features that make it one of the safest in the world.

Ride Restrictions

Like any other ride, there are restrictions that should be followed for your own safety and others. The person controlling the sled has to be at least 54 inches (4.5 ft) tall, because we don’t want children driving! You have to be at least 16 years old to drive someone else. The minimum height of the ride is set at 38 inches (3.1 ft) otherwise you could end up eating with the goats on the roof! Minimum age of the passenger – 3 years old. The maximum height allowed is 84 inches (7 ft), since being hit a bunch of times by branches isn’t too pleasurable. The weight limit per sled is 375 pounds (330 in wet weather) for safety reasons. Should you be unsure about any of these requirements, please ask an attendant who’ll be happy to help.
