Congratulations to Lee Bennett Hopkins, the recipient of the Regina Medal Award for 2016. Welcome to the PennsylvaniaCenter for the Book! he Center provides avenues of exploration into the world of Pennsylvania writing. Our Literary and Cultural Heritage Map of Pennsylvania showcases the writers, musicians and historical figures who have given our Commonwealth its rich heritage. Through the map, one can peruse historic Pennsylvania newspapers some dating from the 18th century as well as a vast store of Pennsylvania county histories and atlases. We strive to keep Pennsylvania citizens aware of contemporary writing through our ongoing Public Poetry Project, which celebrates both the work of Pennsylvania poets and the nationally recognized Lee Bennett Hopkins Award for the best children's poetry book published annually. To shape the future readers of Pennsylvania, the Center has provided book lists, educational guides, lesson plans, and resources for families of young children and those who work in language and literacy development. Each year we select a Baker s Dozen thirteen of the best picture books to support family literacy and to create a love of books and reading with preschool children. Our Letters about Literature writing event invites student writers in 4th through 12th grade to tell authors what their books have meant to them. Our newest award, the Lynd Ward Prize for Graphic Novel of the Year, honors Ward s influence in the development of the graphic novel.
