Description:

These are strange, unusual and sometimes very unsettling times. Yet there has also been reflection, incredible kindness, courage and hope. I am sure we will emerge from this wiser, eventually stronger more focused on the things that matter and willing to fight for them. Most of us have had minor or major setbacks to our plans, whether they were plans of exciting adventures or simply plans to go to work, go to school or open the doors to our businesses every day. During the current lockdown I have often thought about all the incredible people I have met through our workshops, mostly at our property in Médoc but also, more recently, through our travels in Italy. The great power of togetherness and fellowship that can be created by cooking and sharing a few meals together is unlike anything I have experienced before. Sometimes we have had two workshops, one right after the other. As we approach the end of the former, perhaps on the last night, the excitement of the final evening, the tenderness of saying goodbye I feel a little sad and nervous we won t be able to recreate the same feeling with the group arriving in a few days. Yet somehow we always do. My husband, Oddur, likes to joke that it s just the Champagne and while a little (or a lot of) bubbly never hurts we both know that s not it. It s the power of like minded people, looking for and finding the thing that unites them. Cooking, approaching life through food culture in a beautiful setting, the appreciation of a slow life is a powerful unifier. As I said, these are days none of us could have imagined a few months ago. Most of us have been under some sort of lockdown for the last few weeks and many still are. All of us are looking at some restrictions to our life and our plans. We are optimists at heart and always like to keep the prospect of the best possible outcome on the table for as long as we can. But governments are improvising, trying to tackle things how they feel is best and we must tag along. We are still committed to make as few changes to our 2020 schedule as possible. It s is, however, not just up to us and the countries where we host the workshops, France and Italy. Much also depends on whether our guests can travel or even if they want to travel after so much uncertainty.Officially we are making no changes to our program until we are forced to do so for the reasons I named above. Many of you, especially those of you registered for the June workshops, have written and expressed a wish to transfer your bookings to 2021. This is very understandable and I am happy to do so.We usually announce new workshop dates in May and today we have decided not to change that tradition. I hope, that for those of you who have decided to postpone, this gives you something to look forward to and we are of course also open for new bookings provided we have space. It is important to note that while we can t say for sure what will happen with the June workshops much depends on administrative decisions and travel opportunities for our guests as well as how our guests feel about the whole thing we are absolutely confident that there will be no changes to our Fall program and are going ahead as planned. While we don t have any more space in our Fall Harvest workshop in Médoc we have a little bit of leverage in the Italian Road Trip and Piemonte workshop in October. So feel free to contact us if you d like to book: [email protected]We are also, as of today, very excited to add two new workshops in Venice in November this year. One of the highlights of last year was our wonderful Venice group in November, jus thinking about it stirs up so many feelings and memories all very poignant and mysterious and fantastic as Venice tends to be.We are co-hosting these workshops with our great friends the Romanellis, hoteliers in Venice and some of the best people we ve ever met.It s hard to imagine a city more photogenic and mysterious than Venice, so much ethereal beauty, incredible depth and layers. We ve hosted photography workshops before in Italy but never in Venice so this will be a special experience for us and our guests. Food and wine will never be far away, to shoot and arrange but also to eat and drink. We are expecting long and strenuous 16 hour days filled with exploring the city, assignments and fun competitions, but also demonstrating and discovering this place we love. We will shoot fresh produce, cook some meals together, spend all our lunches and dinners feasting our eyes and stomachs.Cost of participation is 3.800 euros including all food and wine, transportation on site and 3 night s accommodation.Revisiting our 2019 workshop at the time of the Madonna della Salute celebrations when Venice is an its most quiet end eerily beautiful. We will spend our days discovering Venetian food traditions and Venice itself. We will cook many meals together, go to the markets and buy the freshest fish and vegetables, see the Venice not everybody gets to see. We ll go home wanting to come back.Cost of participation is 3.800 euros including all food and wine, transportation on site and 3 night s accommodation. It is with great regret that we had to postpone our workshop in Naples this year. We had been looking forward to our days in Naples for so long but now we can just look forward to them again
