These Sailboat Raceing Old Island Goats are Inducted into the Society each Spring at the Organization's Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony. Each of us is a Mackinac Island Michigan Old Goat. Don't confuse us with the San Clemente Island Goat. We're not from Goat Island New York either! Nor are we from the Anime One Piece and Zenny is not our Keeper. We didn't grow up at the Steamboat Island Goat Farm either. Although our mascot looks like a Canary Island Goat, we're Mackinac Island Goats. While we all Love Lighthouses, we're not associated with The Goat Island Light in Newport Harbor. Yes, we like all Goats, even the Arapawa Islan Goat from New Zeland and Goats of Sunset Beach. We're all over the normal Milk Drinking age so we're unlikely customers of the Hawaii Island Goat Dairy. Our home when not on the Water or the Island is the Chicago Yacht Club on Beautiful Lake Michigan. The Fastest Boat to Win the Race was Pyewacket in 2002 by Roy E. Disney and Crew. We have nearly 300 members who perpetuate and commemorate the Chicago to Mackinac Race, along with its legends and lore. In that Spirit, the IGSS has Erected a Finish Line Commemorative Marker on the Island at Windermere Point. It's a Red Nun Buoy at the Finish Line of the World's Longest Annual Freshwater Sailboat Race. The 333 Mile Chicago to Mackinac Island Race has been held in July since 1898.

ISLAND GOATS SAILING SOCIETY
Chicago Yacht Club Station

Long Live the Goats!

. . . As you undoubtedly know, members of the Island Goats Sailing Society have sailed in at least twenty-five Chicago Mackinac Races. We Goats do not just graze and drink together, but are involved in many activities to perpetuate and commemorate the Chicago Mackinac Race. It will be pleasant to have the space to tell of our contributions to Mackinac Island's Medical Center, about our Large Red Nun Buoy and Plaque on the beach near the Finish Line and of our most enjoyable meetings, honors and other activities. The most characteristic quality of Island Goats is their sense of humor about the seeming absurdity of the many situations encountered in getting to Mackinac Island each July. Goat Anne Juell expressed it well when she said "Friendship is the most important part of the racing. . . .
