This blog is for all the cricket crazy fans who worship this fantastic game and follow it

Saturday, July 12, 2014 MOHAMMAD KAIF ALL SET TO BID GOODBYE TO UP RANJI TEAMMOHAMMAD KAIF the former India batsman, is set to leave Uttar Pradesh and join Andhra for the upcoming domestic season.Kaif, who has led Uttar Pradesh to two Ranji Trophy finals, had a miserable first-class season last year. In 11 first-class games, Kaif managed just 265 runs at 16.56, failing to raise a fifty. After UP were bowed out in the Ranji quarter-finals to eventual champions Karnataka, Kaif found some form by hitting two fifties in the central zone one-dayers. Following the the lackluster season, Kaif contested the general elections for the Indian National Congress but lost from the Phulpur constituency in UP.According to Andhra Cricket Association's director of cricketMSK Prasad, Kaif's form with the bat was the last thing on their mind when they decided to rope him in."For a side like ours with an average age of 22, we were looking to bring in someone experienced who could lift the spirit of the side. Kaif is one guy who can build that spirit within the team. That's the reason we have picked him."Andhra finished third from bottom in the lowest rung of the Ranji Trophy last year. With Amol Muzumdar, the domestic stalwart who was a professional with them for two years, leaving Andhra midway through the season, the young side lacked the finishing touch towards the end of the season."Our youngsters need a role model to look up to, one guy who they could look up to and walk up to for anything they require," Prasad said. "We couldn't have asked for a better person than Kaif for this role. He is someone who has achieved the maximum with minimum cricket."Kaif spent some time at the ACA academies last month and was impressed with the facilities. According to Prasad, Kaif is "looking forward to the challenge". Kaif will work with the new coach R Sridhar, who hasreplacedNew Zealander Kaushilk Patel as the head coach for the new season.

England's batsmen dominated the first session, India's bowlers took a clump of wickets in the second session, and England's lower order frustrated the bowlers after tea. India were on the verge of taking a massive lead and possibly bowling England out short of the follow-on mark beforeJoe Rootaverted the danger along with the lower order to end the day unbeaten on 78. Root put on 78 with Stuart Broad, and an unbroken 54 with No. 11 James Anderson as England ended the day trailing by 105.The pitch remained slow and unresponsive through the third day, but India's seamers got more out of it by bowling a much straighter line. Where India's batsmen defended 288 balls from England's seamers and left 257 balls alone, England's batsmen, by stumps, had defended 175 balls and only left 87 alone. It took until the 33rd over of the day, and the second over of the post-lunch session, for India to taste any success. It came fromIshant Sharma, who got the ball to duck back in from a good length to make Robson pay for staying stuck in his crease. The ball hit his front pad before cannoning onto his back pad and umpire Bruce Oxenford had little hesitation in giving him out, even if Hotspot picked up what might have been a faint inside edge.

The ball hit his front pad before cannoning onto his back pad and umpire Bruce Oxenford had little hesitation in giving him out, even if Hotspot picked up what might have been a faint inside edge.
Just when the partnership was assuming dangerous proportions, Bhuvneshwar got one to straighten from leg stump and hit Broad's front pad in front of leg stump. He had his fourth wicket seven overs later, when he nipped one back to bowl Liam Plunkett.India still had Anderson to get past, though. In his last Test match against Sri Lanka, he had blocked out 54 balls before being dismissed two balls short of saving the match and the series. Here, he came out with a different approach. Root initially farmed the strike, placing the ball adroitly into the outfield to take the singles that India gifted him with their deep fields.Given the strike, Anderson went for his shots, punching Bhuvneshwar through the covers, reverse-sweeping Jadeja, and only looking uncomfortable when the fast bowlers dug it in. Root and Anderson batted for 14.3 overs, and could yet overhaul the 111 runs that Bhuvneshwar and Shami, India's last-wicket pair, had put on on the second day.In the morning session, Robson and Ballance had looked largely untroubled, and had seemed by lunch to have won the contest of patience against India's seamers. Ballance took guard outside the crease to negate the effect of his extravagant back-and-across trigger movement and get relatively close to the pitch of the ball when the bowlers drew him forward. Robson got nicely on top of the ball when he defended off the front foot, and even Bhuvneshwar's inswing, by and large, didn't cause his head to fall over. The only chance in the session came when Robson, on 43, inside-edged Ravindra Jadeja as he tried to work the ball around the corner. Virat Kohli dived to his left from leg slip and got his fingers under the ball but couldn't hold on.The bowlers lost some of their discipline late in the session, and Ballance capitalised to beat Robson to fifty. There had been no fours for 12 overs before Ballance took three off one Ishant over, two clipped off his legs and one slapped past backward point.Stuart Binny, who replaced Ishant from that end, released a little more of the pressure, leaking four boundaries in his first three overs, and both batsmen reached their 50s with steered fours down to third man off him. Binny didn't bowl in the second session, and only sent down one over after tea, and with Jadeja threatening to play a bigger role in England's second innings, India may come to wonder if they should have gone with an extra spinner.
cricketingpassion.blospot.comNo comments: Friday, July 11, 2014 Robson And Ballance hits 50 to put England back in the MatchEngland enjoyed perhaps their best session of the first Test asSam RobsonandGary Ballancebatted through till lunch and extended their second-wicket partnership to an unbroken 122. Having seen off some disciplined bowling in the first hour, both batsmen capitalised on the loose balls towards the end of the session and went to lunch with unbeaten fifties. With the low bounce in mind, India's seamers bowled noticeably straighter lines than their England counterparts. Occasionally, this meant they drifted on to the pads; Sam Robson tucked Mohammed Shami for three leg-side boundaries in the first hour. But they constantly made both batsmen play.
Where India's batsmen defended 288 balls from England's seamers and left 257 balls alone, England's batsmen, by lunch, had defended 91 balls and only left 44 alone. Shami bowled full and straight, Bhuvneshwar did the same with MS Dhoni standing up, and even Ishant Sharma started his spell bowling a good six inches closer to the batsmen than his natural length.Robson and Ballance were up to this test. Ballance's trigger movement usually takes him so deep in his crease that he plays his front-foot shots from barely a foot outside his crease. Today he stood outside his crease. Robson got on top of the ball when he defended off the front foot, and even Bhuvneshwar's inswing, by and large, didn't cause his head to fall over. The majority of the session passed without incident. As he had done yesterday evening, Ishant produced an edge from Ballance - the ball dropping well short of third slip - and beat the left-hander's bat on a couple of occasions early in his spell.Robson was almost entirely untroubled by the fast bowlers, and only produced a chance when Ravindra Jadeja came on, inside-edging as he tried to work the ball around the corner. Virat Kohli dived to his left from leg slip and got his fingers under the ball but couldn't hold on. Robson was on 43 at this point.Robson, courtesy those leg-side fours off Shami, had outscored Ballance till late in the session, when the bowlers lost their discipline and sent down a series of release balls. There had been no fours for 12 overs when Ishant went around the wicket and lost his line, feeding Ballance a ball on his pads that he clipped to the midwicket boundary. A short ball followed three balls later, and Balance slapped it away past backward point. Moving back to right-arm over, Ishant sent down another leg-side delivery that Ballance tucked away for his third four of the over.Stuart Binny replaced Ishant from that end and took a couple of overs to find any rhythm. By then, Ballance had already guided him away for two fours down to third man - the first of these shots bringing up his half-century - and driven a half-volley handsomely to the cover boundary. Binny dropped short against Robson as well, and he steered him behind point to go from 46 to 50.

No comments: Thursday, July 10, 2014 INDIA OFF WITH A BLAST IN ENLANDIndia off with a blasting century of the opener Murali Vijayput on a fine batting display and was eyeing a century as India recovered from two quick strikes to reach 177 for three at tea in the first innings on the first day of the first cricket Test against England at the Trent Bridge here on Wednesday.
Looking for their first overseas Test win in three years, India had two contrasting sessions in the day after skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni opted to bat first.Vijay was in sublime touch right from the word go and looked determined to improve his woeful average in overseas Tests. He was involved in two key partnerships a 73-run stand for the second wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara (38) and 70-run unfinished stand for the fourth wicket with Rahane. After an impressive first session, India lost Pujara and Virat Kohli (1) in consecutive overs. Pujara fell to Anderson's trap who was bowling with a silly mid-on. The ploy worked perfectly for Anderson as Pujara pushed at a delivery tentatively and Bell picked up a one-handed catch diving full length to his right.MSD AND COOKKohli went in the next over as he went forwardto face Stuart Broad but thedelivery straightened after pitching and kissed the shoulder of the bat to second slip. However, Vijay continued playing confidently at the other end. Rahane survived few nervous moments and close call but gave Vijay good company to help India recover from a precarious situation.Earlier, with the 0-4 whitewash in 2011 still fresh in their minds, the Indian openers Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan (12) started confidently on a pitch that offered little assistance to the pacers.India got off to an impressive start as they reached 106 for one at lunch. The only wicket to fall in the morning session was that of Dhawan (12), who was caught brilliantly by Matt Prior off James Anderson (2/50).The first boundary came in just the third ball of the day, but in an accidental fashion. Vijay wanted to leave the delivery from Anderson but was late in pulling out and found an under-edge past the third slip for the first runs on board. The next two balls also were dispatched to the boundary by Vijay but in a much controlled manner. But it didn't take long for Anderson to taste success. In the seventh over, he just got it to deviate just enough to catch the edge of Dhawan's batand wicket keeper Matt Prior plucked outa brilliant one-handed catch diving to his left.Vijay and Pujara then added 73 runs for their unfinished second wicket stand to take India to a comfortable position at lunch. They took their own time but never missed out on an opportunity to punish the loose deliveries. No comments: Saturday, August 17, 2013 Cricketing Passion: Duncan FletcherDuncan Fletcher, India's head coach...Cricketing Passion: Duncan FletcherDuncan Fletcher, India's head coach...: Duncan Fletcher Duncan Fletcher , India's head coach, will tour with India A for both of their unofficial four-day Tests in South ...No comments: Duncan FletcherDuncan Fletcher, India's head coach, will tour with India A for both of their unofficial four-day Tests in South Africa. The two matches are scheduled to be played in Rustenburg between August 17 and 20, and Pretoria between August 24 and 27. India A recently won a one-day tri-series also featuring A teams from Australia and South Africa.Cheteshwar Pujara, the India A captain, was optimistic about his side's chances ahead of the two Tests. "Winning the ODI series has given us a confidence boost going into the four-day series," Pujara said. "We played really well throughout that series, except for a couple of close games against Australia that we lost."South Africa A had an indifferent ODI series, finishing bottom of the table with just one win in four matches. Their captain,Justin Ontong, said it was vital that his team regrouped and moved on."We had a disappointing ODI series but in saying that I still think we played good cricket," Ontong said. "It was particularly hard for the bowlers on those sort of decks, but I think we took a lot of lessons from that experience."We are in a very good space as a unit," he said. "Our four-day disciplines are where we want them to be. We are encountering new opposition, so it is a new challenge for us, and also a new opportunity for players to put in some noteworthy performances."Both captains expect dry, bowler-friendly conditions, a change from the placid pitches at the LC de Villiers Oval in Pretoria that produced tall totals in the one-dayers. "If it turns, it will be helpful for us because we are used to playing in turning conditions," Pujara said. "But let's see how it will turn out. We know conditions in South Africa normally suit the fast bowlers. We will have a better idea of our playing XI once they have trained in the conditions."Ontong, who is better acquainted with the local wickets, said, "We know this type of wicket is different from the HPC (Pretoria) wicket. As a batsman, you are never in. The seamers and spinners are always in the game. It's going to be a huge challenge for the batsmen to construct their innings and put on big scores. Patience is going to be the key."

No comments: Thursday, August 15, 2013 India A thrashes Australia A in the FinalsKarthik's 73 drove India A to victoryIt was only a shade over half of what they showed they were capable of - 243 instead of 433 - but India A's bowlers defended it to win the tri-series. In doing so, they bowled Australia A out for the lowest total of the week-long tournament, which has been played at a small ground on flat pitches and was, until today, a struggle for the bowlers.Australia A's attack showed what discipline could do as they reined in India A from 141 for 2 after 23 overs to 243 all out. Through tight lines and fairly full lengths, they ensured India A only posted two partnerships higher than 20. Their last five wickets fell for 14 runs as they recorded the third-lowest total of the tournament.Through a display of inept stroke-making and poor shot selection, Australia A's line-up did themselves no favours on a surface that finally showed a few sparks of life. India A's quicks were able to extract slight extra bounce but it was not a strip that justified Australia A's dismal showing in what should have been the event's climax.Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch seemed determine to polish off the total in quick time. Marsh drove Mohammed Shami powerfully for four while Finch charged Suresh Raina, who opened the bowling, for a six and then a four in successive overs. The big hitting soon cost them. Finch tried to heave Shami down the ground but missed, and the ball found its way into the massive gap between bat and pad to bowl him. Shami got Marsh out to a similar shot - the batsman tried to pull him over mid-on but found Cheteshwar Pujara instead.Despite being two down early on, the Australian approach did not change. Glenn Maxwell took on Ishwar Pandey and enjoyed fleeting success before pulling off Raina and falling in a manner similar to Marsh. At 50 for 3, Australia A needed consolidation but India sensed opportunity. When Nic Maddinson got a healthy edge off Pandey, Raina leapt up at slip to pluck the ball out of the sky. And when Mitchell Marsh went too far down from the non-striker's end after thinking of a sneaky single, Rohit Sharma was quick to get to the ball and ran him out. At 53 for 5, the only thing left for Australia A was to find a dignified way to end their challenge. They were in danger of missing out on that ending when Moises Henriques and Nathan Coulter-Nile both fell to Shahbaz Nadeem, the former edging to Raina, the latter being stumped by some distance. But Tim Paine and Josh Hazlewood batted manfully in an eight-wicket stand of 54 before Hazlewood became Nadeem's third victim. Wriddhiman Saha showed quick reflexes to pull off a second stumping in a match where his keeping stood out for its efficiency.Paine quietly approached a half-century but was bowled for 47 in the 45th over. Although Australia's lower order already had too much to do, with him out, they simply marked time to the end.Earlier, India lost A Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara early on but man-of-the-moment Shikhar Dhawan was on hand to take control. He drove the first ball he faced for four, was strong down the ground and dispatched anything pitched up. In a bid to stem the flow, Australia A resorted to a short-ball barrage but Dinesh Karthik's pull shot was up to the task. The pair put on 108 runs for the third wicket and kept India A's run-rate above six an over to sound a warning that a big total could be on the cards again. Australia A hauled them in after Dhawan reached for a Henriques delivery and was caught behind in the 24th over. Kartik was bowled by Nathan Coluter-Nile in the 29th over and Suresh Raina was dismissed cheaply three overs later.Ambati Rayudu, who edged a couple of times before settling in, and Wriddiman Saha rebuilt slowly. They did not find the boundary for 36 balls between the 36th and 42nd over, which slowed India A down, and Rayudu was bowled as he tried to accelerate, heaving and missing against a straight Hazlewood ball.Saha drove with confidence but when he tried to go aerial, he looped one to Maxwell at point to leave the lower order in charge of the final five-over surge.Hazlewood and Coulter-Nile did not give India A's lower order much opportunity to score and took four wickets, including Saha in that time. They bowled full and straight to limit scoring. India A posted just 12 runs in the last 4.2 overs and their total appeared below-par but eventually, it turned out to be more than enough. No comments: Wednesday, May 22, 2013 Chennai Super Kings All Set For The FinalsBy beating the Mumbai Indians last night at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Chennai Super Kings are all set for the final battle at the Eden Gardens Kolkata. The picture will be clear when the remaining two teams play their knockout games for making it to the final.

After thrashing away the Mumbai bowlers Chennai's bowlers joined the party and wrapped up Mumbai Indians's innings in a great fashion.
Although what followed wasn't quite unexpected. Smith went absolutely berserk in the chase. Everything he touched seemed to be going either four or six. He didn't spared opening bowlers nor Chris Morris. He led into R.Ashwin too and led Mumbai to 86 for 1 in seven overs.

Dhoni wasn't feeling that much comfartable on the field by watching his top quality bowlers being punished by the West Indian and went up to his trump card Ravindra Jadeja as he dismissed Smith and Karthik in quick succession. No comments: Tuesday, May 14, 2013 Pollard Pulls It Back For Mumbai After a Remarkable Comeback into The SideKieron Pollard slammed an unbeaten 66 in 27 Balls to inspire Mumbai Indians for a much needed win for making it to the playoffs.
